About Doug

Hi Team, My name is Doug and I am an avid D&D player and DM. I just can't get enough of it! I'm originally from England, but I have been living in New Zealand for the last 16 years. I was first introduced to AD&D in the early 90s through a school D&D club. I stopped playing for many years but returned to it (like many of us) during the pandemic lockdown - what a saviour! For the last 5 years or so, I have been playing and DM-ing as much as I can. I currently run two in-person games per week and I play in a another weekly game. I'm fortunate enough to be playing my fourth campaign with the same core group of friends (we even finished two of them!). I tend to run amended published D&D 5e/5.5e adventures. I do a lot of work behind the scenes to make sure that I am happy with the story before running the game.

How Doug runs games

I love the collaborative storytelling aspect of being a DM. I fully encourage the roleplay element, but I try to ensure that I cover all three pillars of adventure (Exploration, Social, & Combat). I'm way too generous when it comes to treasure and rewards and I love the rule of cool. But, as they say in New Zealand, if you want the treats, you have to do the mahi (work). I like to ensure that each adventure is a challenge. I will make heroes of you all! I promise, I am (mostly) on your side... mwah ha ha! I enjoy the Role Playing element, but I completely understand that that is not everyone's cup of tea. Players are certainly not expected/forced to roleplay if they are not 100% comfortable with it.
