About Kami

Hello! I'm Kami, and I'm an avid worldbuilder who greatly enjoys taking full advantage of the wild variety available in fantasy settings. I love to have open worlds full of history, side-events, mystery, and room for plenty of exploration. I run entirely homebrew worlds and stories using 5e, or Pathfinder, as a base framework to navigate the world. I love to encourage my players in taking the "unusual" route and working with them to find ways to make their character concepts for with the world of the campaign. Oftentimes, this allows me to expand more on my own writings and find any oversights in them as a side benefit to bringing these characters to life! I love to use music as a layer of my storytelling, running liet motif through Kenku to add more depth to each city, battle, or scene. I love to expand on the potential of certain rules and spells, and delight in seeing what uses a player may devise. I often discuss with the table my particular reasoning as each case comes up. I always gear my games to be very beginner friendly, and encourage questions about mechanics and the world itself. I'm also a very prolific writer of side-content that players can find in the course of their travels, which I make freely available to the group as they're found. I will also write side pieces for PCs upon request if they have to be away from the group for some length of time. If you're new, or just looking for another game, I hope you'll come to my Table!

My favorite books are

Oh, I am all over the place with my books, I can hardly choose just one! I revisit Tolkien and Bourdain every year, I love Brandon Sanderson's works and S.A. Chakraborty. Naomi Novik and Steven Brust are just delightful. I could keep going! I pretty much always have an audiobook running

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Devious, Enthusiastic, and Comedic

When I'm not running games I'm...

Usually tinkering around in the kitchen, my forge, or my gardens when the weather cooperates. Or I am sucked into yet another videogame

How Kami runs games

I run Story-focused games with a focus on how the player's choices can shape events of the world. "Rule of Cool" is a good summary of how I handle mechanics, often opting for creative uses of spells and skills. "If you can make the case for it, odds are that I'll say go for it" is a common phrase when I'm running games. I run Combat Encounters infrequently, and have Arenas made for more important combats, which tend to also be more challenging and significant to the overall Storyline I prefer to use Milestone Leveling as an offset for infrequent combat. I often take inspiration from 3rd Party content to better expand my world, and run with a "If you find something, run it by me so I can tweak if needed" rule on any non-core or 3rd Party materials. I always go over general themes and potential story elements in a Session Zero and make use of a checklist for players to look over. Even if some sections of the list won't come up, it's better to have all bases covered.

I deal with rules issues by...

Talking openly about them. Chances are good that maybe I've misread or even misremembered something. Or a particular rule really just doesn't work so well. But talking about them with players can be a great opportunity to expand or refine them as needed, and that makes the game better for everyone.

Rules are...

More like guidelines. Useful for establishing metrics, of course, but are best when discussed and made to better fit

When it comes to voices

I go all in! Voice Acting for my character work as a Player and as a GM lets me really get into the character and make them feel so much more alive! Even when that bites me later and I end up keeping certain vocal quirks.

Kami's ideal table

I run games that are meant to be very story and RP driven. Players who are curious, excited about getting into their characters, and really into exploration will fit right in. Players who have "unusual" character ideas? Bring it on, let's make this happen! These are worlds of magic! Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations! I gear my tables to be welcoming places in and out of Character, and regardless of experience level

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Creative magic, sometimes chaotic humor, massive open worlds, and seeing your party's actions have an impact

I love it when a player

Is curious. If their reaction to seeing all of the world building I've done is to want to know more? That is like catnip to me. I love it when players are able to get engaged with their characters and the world around them. It adds so much to the game and makes the story so much more impactful

My table is not the place for...

Bigotry or racism. At all. I don't even write that into my worlds, even the most isolated and insular village will not stoop so low. If you take issue with Queer people existing, or POC existing, then my table is not for you.
