About David

Hi all, I'm David and welcome to new and exciting worlds and adventures. I have been playing and running TTRPGs on and off for about 25yrs. In the last 6-7years they have been a major part of my life, giving me the oppotunity to meet new people and explore new places. For a while I prefered to game around a table and then lockdown hit. I started to play on line and have streamed my games in various places, both as a player and a storyteller. My passion for the gaems I play have lead to be do free lance writing for Warhammer Fantasy, Wrath & Gory and Soulbound: Age of Sigmar along with some other smaller indie games and various community content publications. Game wise I love to play most things but have a tendency towards personal horror, wyrd and folkloric. One of my favourite games is Vaesen, but I also delve into games such as Kult, Solemn Vale, Tales From the Loop (and Things from the Flood), Warhammer Fantasy. Anything a little dark and a little wyrd. I am always looking for interesting and different scenarios and games to play that push me as a Storyteller to explore new ideas. I am one of the hosts of Darker Days Radio, a podcast about horror themed RPGs. I also host my own podcast, The Drunken Storyteller, where I delve into folkore, myths, legends and play rpgs. I thrive on good story telling over rules crunch and am more likely to reward a novel and interesting story hook / arc that shiney math rock calculator. Though this does have its place. If this sounds interesting to you them we should get along just fine :) I look forward to adventuring with you

How David runs games

Story, story, story. I am a huge fan of telling good and fun and interesting stories. Rules light, rules bending. The dice are there to guide the story, not dictate an outcome. I have played games where no dice have been needed because my players have been so good at telling the story. If you are looking for crunch and min/maxing then my table is likelly not for you. If you want to delve deep into a world, explore your characters, the NPCs and locations, having amazing successes and dramatic fails that push the story, then lets dive right in. I will run light and fun, that can turn dark and tortuous. Expect twists and turns, a yappy dog to run between your feet and trip over a bar man carrying all the beer spilling it over partrons much to the amusement of all to descovering the deep dark and hidden secrets of a characters tortured past, the dreams that wake them up at night in cold sweats and their darkest fears. I use the theatre of the mind in all my games. I am a working academic and unfortunately don't have the time to pull together amazing packs for VTTs. I will use Roll20 for dice rolls and if character sheets are availble and if there are assets I have created they will go there. But Players have the best imagination and my work will never do them justice. Campaigns will have a session 0 for character gen and discussions on safety. All games will have lines and veils and an open DM policy to me for dealing with issues that arrise. First and foremost: Be kind, this is a game and for fun. Everone needs to feel safe. Everyone is welcome as long as they can the respect the identities of their peers in the group. (The GM is non-binary!)
