About TheCalebG
Hello there! I'm TheCalebG (he/they). You might know me from my many years in podcasting and streaming with shows such as The RPG Academy and Identeco. I'm also the co-founder of AcadeCon, a regional gaming convention in Dayton, Ohio. I've spent years welcoming new folks to the gaming hobby, instructing players and game runners, discussing game theory, interviewing independent game designers, and reviewing games. I have run countless campaigns and one-shots both on and off the air. I am well-versed in both published modules and homebrewed settings. I also have a long history in stage performance and improv. I promise to deliver the best possible game experience while respecting our time together. I am passionate about collaborative storytelling. I want to experience a story with you, not tell a story to you. Gaming is an art that allows us to share unique experiences and improve ourselves. There's joy in telling stories to each other and with each other. With all the chaos in the world, I want to be part of something good and I want to do that together with like-minded folks.

How TheCalebG runs games
As a game runner, my main priorities are player safety and fun. My games are built on shared narrative responsibility and full player agency. We create the story together, collaborating on every detail from start to finish. I provide high-level structure and guide us all through the game's events, but everything else is up to my players. I do not use tactical maps, instead focusing on narrative descriptions and cinematic experiences. I will frequently prompt players for input on details and encourage them to take narrative control when they feel inspired. In most games, I try to find a balance between combat, social, and exploration encounters. Each game is different, however, and I am very sensitive to the needs of my players and adjust accordingly. I believe in the strong foundation of a session zero to set clear expectations for everyone at the game table. I strive for open communication at all times, which means using safety tools and checking in with players to ensure we remain on the right track for enjoyment. I expect my players to be responsible for engaging with the story, respecting everyone at the table, and following safety guidelines. We are agreeing to a shared experience and we are all responsible for making that experience joyful and entertaining. I lean more towards the rule of cool with a focus on fun roleplaying. I love knowing the rules of a system and appreciate the structure they provide, but also love breaking them for the sake of an entertaining story. I try character voices but am not great at it. I hope you are and feel comfortable bringing that talent to the table! I enjoy tactical combat but prefer theatre of the mind narration with less emphasis on measurements and more emphasis on vibes, intent, and just doing cool stuff while having a great time.
