About DM Tom
Greetings! I am Tom (my real name is too long and a bit odd to pronounce). There are many things I enjoy doing, but only the ones that truly make me fulfilled get a special spot in my everyday life. Those are poetry/writing, game design, and D&D! I have been a DM for 8 years now. (Playing mostly 5e and 5.5e ever since it came out) My first 3 campaigns lasted over a year and a half each, and were almost completely homebrewed. Later on, I decided to get familiar with the lore of the already established world of Faerûn/Toril, carefully merging it with the events that happened in my previous homebrew campaigns. I rarely go a day without thinking about D&D. I've hosted games in English, Serbian, and, with some groups, a fun mix of both. I am a sucker for character creation, and it shows in my vast inventory of PCs/NPCs I've played/created as a player and a DM. These days, I mostly run official campaign settings published by WotC, and I would love to bring adventures such as Lost Mine of Phandelver, Vecna: Eve of Ruin, Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, and Curse of Strahd to both new and seasoned players. Currently, I am finishing up my own personal role-playing board game that I have been working on for some time, and D&D has been a huge inspiration during the process. Playtesting has been a fun ride!

How DM Tom runs games
I've spent a long time expanding and building the world my players are in. Making things feel alive and rich with history/events is what I strive for in my games as a DM. In my games, combat is rarely the primary focus. It is the story that leads to it that takes up most of the time at my table. I don't discourage players from seeking out fights on their own, but the combat I introduce is usually the relevant, story-driving, or story-ending kind. That being said, roleplay is what I personally push for the most. However, I take pride in being adaptable, having run games for many different tables and player archetypes. I believe a good DM should be able to adjust to the people at the table while still maintaining their own style and vision for the game.
