About Maze Controller
Hi I'm Alex, I've been playing or running Tabeltop RPG games since about 1982 in one form or another. I have a wealth of experience with many of the most popular systems and quite a few obscure ones, but nowadays I tend to gravitate to d100 systems. I tend to go by the moniker 'The Maze Controller' (iykyk) when playing or GMing. As a loose confederation I brand my groups under the title of 'Bad Wrong Fun'. (Again - iykyk) Nowadays I tend to run games online, With my preferred VTT being Tabletop Simulator, supporting the table with a variety of skills. I indulge in most anything needed. Trying my hand at writing, voice acting, drawing, light coding, even some 3d modelling to maintain a true tabletop feel.

I became a GM because
I need friends. Just kidding, I think its just a creative expression.
I got started GMing...
In the 80ies, I'm still trying to get good :)
People are always surprised when I tell them
That I have played in gaming sessions with some of the members of Gary Gygax's original player groups.
How Maze Controller runs games
We gamify the creation of campaign setting with the players. Our groups are responsible for creation of every major element, the gods the lands the peoples, history, and even group dynamics before the first adventure actually begins. We then take the group's creations and bring them to life. A real world example of this process to a new player is: Most people know about the continent of Europe, the country of France, and city of Paris. Folks even know about things like the languages spoken French, the predominant religion Christianity, landmarks like Eiffel Tower and historical events WWII. If one was to ask a person however - what is happening on a certain street in Paris in a certain neighborhood, right now?!?! That's where the GM comes in. The players never have to ask 'what they know' about the game world, because they invented it. This makes for some pretty rich adventuring overall.

I once ran a session...
Over cellphone text message where the other person played as a newly sentient toaster.
Rules are...
As written. Unless agreed upon for very explicit reasons. I want everyone to get what they pay for. RAW makes it easiest to teach systems and be fair when making rulings.
When it comes to voices
I once was teased by a party of 10 players for doing a creepy little girl voice (beard didn't help lol) but I never stopped. Fun and laughs were had by all.
Maze Controller's ideal table
We tend to prefer theme campaigns and groups. We love players who will buy in to my kooky process and are game to create a shared verisimilitude. Rules as written, but spirit of the law more important than the letter. Actions have consequences, both good and bad. Risk vs reward is real at the table, but many of the best sessions start when a player speaks up and shows an interest in aspects of the game world, or just trying something out.

I love it when a player

I think metagaming...
is okay, but boring. System mastery is a real thing, and I understand why optimizing is good, but it can quickly spiral into boredom. Make interesting tradeoffs and choices when playing - it will take you farther.
