About Taoist Dragon

Hello adventurers of all kinds! I'm the Taoist Dragon, but you can call me Toasty!!! I've been playing RPGs since I was 6 and acting since I was 9 years old, and I'm currently 32. You could say I'm some what of a vet. In fact, I can still hear the wizard saying "I cast fireball" in my dreams. I officially started my TTRPG journey as a teenager out of high school. It was an easy transition and I've loved them ever since. They combine a lot of my loves in life, from interesting worlds, acting, gaming, and good times with friends. I've been in more campaigns than I can count and have done quite a bit of playing and GMing, both on and off camera. I have a Youtube channel and have been talent on several theater productions, actual plays, and movies. While I love playing, I also love being the GM. As the GM, I get to play all sorts of characters. Also, I am a writer and being the GM lets me create cool and interesting worlds and scenarios for players to shine in. It still amazes me so much to this day just seeing how creative my players can be and the shenanigans they can get up to. It's fun for me to just be in the backseat as the narrator as my players take the reins on the story. Together, we can create such interesting tales. I've decided to try my hand at professional GMing because I know how hard it can be to find someone who wants to GM. It has ended so many groups and prevented people from enjoying this hobby. So, relax adventurer. Trust the Dragon to be Your Guide.

I became a GM because

I love to create and I love being support. Being GM means I get to make a world, fill it with unique characters, and be the backdrop as my players take the spot light. Also, not everyone wants to GM. I enjoy doing it and am happy to GM so others can play!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Fun, Roleplay-focused, Inclusive

When I'm not running games I'm...

I am a Renaissance man with many interests. Just a short list of my projects; I am a writer, I have a Youtube channel, I'm an actor working on my voice acting, and I am working on going back to school to be a teacher. I also love RPGs and play a lot of them on my free time.

How Taoist Dragon runs games

My game master style is the same as me as a person. I pay attention to my players and tailor the experience to them. I am constantly listening to feedback and refining the experience for what is the most enjoyable for everyone. I am very role play focused and give plenty of opportunities for my players to explore their characters. At times, I can lean towards more comedic. Though, I will also be serious when the occasion needs to be. Overall, I am an actor with eclectic interests. I encourage and foster roleplay at my tables as I also roleplay myself with the NPCs and the world. In terms of RAW vs rule of cool and homebrew, I try to be the arbiter of the rules but not shackled to them. The rules are there to give a way to interact with the world and not keep anyone from having fun. That said, I do run for a lot of beginners and beginner friendly games for mix groups. While I do keep the same views on the rules for those groups, I will stick mostly to RAW for players to learn the system. That said, I'm also a very creative person and I love to put my own spin on things. I am very homebrew forward and positive, but would never implement my own homebrew rules on a whim. Everything, as all things for TTRPGs, is worked out with the table and group. The other thing with my style is I very much am the support role as a GM. I am here to create the world. I am the tree on the corner of the street you can climb for a better view. I am the NPC that tries to guide you on your path. And I am the villain that you will overcome. My focus as GM is to create a believable world with interesting scenarios to highlight the player characters and let them be the protagonists. I won't necessarily take it easy on my players. If you walk into a troll cave at level one, you walk into a troll cave at level one. But I am not actively out to get them either. Rather, we are working together to tell your story. With that, I will often let my players be "mini GMs" and will let them create NPCs or describe a room and incorporate that into the game.

I once ran a session...

Where my players had to defend their pawn shop from a goblin biker gang. For how silly the game was, it was almost a TPK! It was as chaotic as you expected, with my favorite moment being when the players stuffed the goblin leader into a trash can and levitated it!

Rules are...

Not set in stone. The rules are all here so we have a framework to engage in the game and have fun. If a rule doesn't work for a group, we can tweak it. At the end of the day all that matters is we are on the same page and having fun.

When it comes to voices

I will do a bunch of different voices! I am a budding voice actor and, while I feel I got room for improvement, I feel I do decent work. Be prepared for Stitch or Skeletor to join in our game!

Taoist Dragon's ideal table

My tables are pretty easy going and friendly places. I am here to build everyone up and I feel the environment I create is conducive to that. I'm all for "yes, and"-ing my party's shenanigans, as long as they have the tools in means to do so in the system and established game world. Overall, this creates a table environment where everyone feels welcome and is better geared towards players who like working with others. Other than that, anyone is welcome! I have enough experience in the systems I run that veterans should be feel at home and enough patience and warmth that newbies should feel the same. I strive to find something for everyone.

I love it when a player

My table is not the place for...

Gate keepers, those who try to rob the enjoyment of others, bigots, or those that need to always be the center of attention.
