About Suse

Hello there. I’m Suse. I’m a Moodwright here to guide you through worlds where the weird and wonderful collide. I’ve been running games for over 25 years, playing through character sheets untold to bring these stories to the StartPlaying portal. Roll sanity checks for me in Delta Green Ask to hear my Devil's Bargain in Blades in the Dark Indulge me on how your ogre sous chef cooks up a storm in Troika! Or roll +Cool in Monster of the Week after I’ve made a Hard Move against you. I’m a ‘yes, and’ kind of Ref with a dash of ‘Rule of Cool’. I believe the best stories are those we tell together, where your wild ideas are celebrated and your characters shine in the spotlight. My table is always safe, inclusive, and ready for you. Who will you play at my table?

I became a GM because

I love setting the stage, but the story only truly comes alive when players add their own creativity and delight.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Creative, Inclusive, and a Moodwright. Check the reviews to see why!

When I'm not running games I'm...

Writing, drawing, playing, watching terrible movies (deliberately!), and being an all-round wonderful menace.

How Suse runs games

I teach by playing. I use a ‘Yes, And’ approach to make learning new systems seamless and fun, not homework. I prefer narrative-rich, Theatre of the Mind games where rules support your creativity rather than block it. Whether we are in a long campaign or a one-shot, I focus on player agency—I set the scene, but you drive the action.

I deal with rules issues by...

Story flow comes first. I welcome a Rules Lawyer who is on the side of the group (Us vs. The Problem!), on the shared understanding that this is a Rule of Cool table. If the action is stalling, I’ll make a ruling in the moment. However, we can look at worked examples together for the next time!

I prep by

Putting on a playlist! For campaigns, I review our progress and reflect on where the story might go next. For one-shots, I clear my mind so I'm not influenced by prior runs—I want every new team to bring their own fresh approach.

Rules are...

The skeleton that holds the story up. They are an arbiter of success and consequence, but never the master of the table. We use the rules to support the drama, not to limit the fun.

Suse's ideal table

Expect an inclusive, welcoming table where everyone gets their spotlight. Safety tools and respect for pronouns are standard here—creativity needs safety to thrive! The best way to learn is by playing. We were all new once, so questions are encouraged rather than judged. We build a supportive atmosphere together; seeing experienced players 'buddy up' with newcomers to help them find their footing is one of the best parts of the game.

I love it when a player

Spots the deliberate gaps I’ve left in the world and fills them with their own wild ideas. I love it when you take ownership of the story, turning a blank space on the map into something personal and surprising.

I think min/maxing...

Is less about 'winning' and more about defining your character. In narrative games, being bad at something is often as much fun as being the best! I encourage building characters that are interesting to play, rather than just statistically perfect.

My table is not the place for...

Bigotry, intolerance, or ignoring your fellow players. It is also not for a 'my way or the highway' approach to speed. I curate the pacing to find the group's average—I won't let the plot fester, but I won't force you to rush. We find the rhythm that works for the specific team at the table.
