About Storydad

Hi, I'm Aaron, and I've been telling stories at the table for nearly two decades. For the last 19 years, TTRPGs have been my passion. In that time I've run more than 40 campaigns across a wide variety of systems, settings, and play styles. Whether it's heroic fantasy, cosmic horror, political intrigue, desperate scoundrels chasing one last score, or a galaxy far, far away, I love helping players create stories they'll remember long after the dice stop rolling. Over the past three years I've expanded that experience into livestreamed actual play, running games weekly for online audiences, charity events, and my own community through Another World. Those experiences taught me how to keep games moving, share the spotlight, and create engaging moments for players with many different backgrounds and levels of experience. I've run Dungeons & Dragons 3.5, Pathfinder 1st Edition, Star Wars d20, Call of Cthulhu, Vampire: The Masquerade, Blades in the Dark, Cyberpunk RED, Shadowrun, and more. My goal is simple: create a table where everyone feels welcome, invested, and excited to come back next session. Expect memorable NPCs, meaningful character choices, strong roleplay opportunities, and stories shaped by player decisions. Whether you're a veteran player or opening a character sheet for the first time, I'll help you find your place in the world and make your mark on it. Let's tell a great story together.

I got started GMing...

When I was 16 I coerced my friends to drive 45 minutes away from our podunk town to visit the closest FLGS to snag the 3.5 edition of Dungeons and Dragons. I became the defacto GM because I pitched the idea and the rest is history.

My favorite books are

The Cosmere novels, The Hobbit, Dungeon Crawler Carl

My favorite shows/movies are

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Frieren, Breaking Bad, Star Trek DS9, Akira, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bladerunner: 2049

How Storydad runs games

My games are roleplay first, character driven experiences where player choices shape the story. While I enjoy tactical moments when they matter, I generally favor lighter mechanical focus and keeping the narrative moving over getting lost in rules minutiae. If there's one thing my players know me for, it's political intrigue. Schemes, rival factions, shifting alliances, hidden agendas, and difficult choices are at the heart of many of my campaigns. I love putting characters in situations where every conversation matters and every decision has consequences. My greatest strength as a Game Master is bringing NPCs to life. Whether it's a beloved ally, a dangerous rival, or a morally gray power broker, I enjoy creating memorable personalities through accents, voices, mannerisms, and strong characterization. Expect immersive roleplay, compelling characters, dramatic tension, and stories that evolve because of the choices you make.

My favorite trope is...

Enemies to lovers

Rules are...

A great rubric by which to empower your players and enforce the stakes of the game. They should never bog down players and take away from the fun of a session if it can be prevented.

When it comes to voices

I try to blend a mix of real world accents that are in my repertoire (American Southern, Posh British, Gruff British, and a handful of others) tone shifts and silly voices(Larger characters get a deeper register, smaller gets higher, etc...) to add immersion to a session.

Storydad's ideal table

A culturally and racially divers group of people that would buy in fully to the campaign that I pitch. People that feel empowered and safe enough to dig into real emotion and have fun with the world that we collaboratively tell stories in.

I love it when a player

Feels safe enough to show real in character emotions. (Crying, in character anger, joy, etc...)

I think metagaming...

Robs players of the chance to learn things in character and can ruin the immersion of the table when abused.

My table is not the place for...

Bigots, selfish role players, players that aren't willing to abide safety and consent rules.
