About Sonia

I’ve been a fan of RPGs and fantasy for as long as I can remember. Rich stories like in Game of Thrones and Dragon Age have always inspired me. I first started playing Dungeons & Dragons in 2016, and I was instantly hooked by the blend of creativity and storytelling. Since 2021, I’ve been running my own games as a Dungeon Master.

I became a GM because

Most of my friends were new to D&D, and since I’m a natural storyteller, I ended up as the forever DM for nearly three years. I didn’t mind, though; I genuinely enjoy running games for people.

I got started GMing...

Four years ago, I ran the goblin cave from Lost Mine of Phandelver for my closest friends, and the experience inspired me to start writing my own adventures.

How Sonia runs games

Style of Play 🎲 I run a balanced game that blends combat, role-playing, and exploration. You can expect a mix of dynamic encounters and meaningful character moments. Rules 📖 I fall somewhere between the rules as written and the rule of cool. I like to keep the game fair while encouraging fun and creativity. Difficulty ⚔️ My players often describe my combats as challenging. I don’t make encounters hard just for the sake of it, but I do enjoy testing the party’s tactics and teamwork, and giving everyone a chance to shine when the odds are tough. Creativity 🌈 I love rewarding creative problem-solving, both in and out of combat, often with Inspiration or other narrative rewards. Narrative 📚 My campaigns tend to follow a somewhat linear structure, but the story always evolves through player choices. I see storytelling as a collaborative process where everyone contributes to shaping the world and its outcomes. Modules 📝 I rarely run official modules exactly as written. I prefer to adapt and customize them, or create entirely original adventures tailored to the group’s characters. What I Bring 🌟 I maintain a D&D Beyond Master-Tier subscription and share all my purchased books with my campaigns. Beyond that, I bring a positive attitude, humor, and years of DMing experience to the table.

I deal with rules issues by...

I typically double-check rules to ensure I’m remembering them correctly. However, it’s not always practical to pause the game repeatedly, so I make a quick ruling to keep the session flowing and revisit the details later when I have time to research them properly.

I prep by

I outline my campaigns in Google Drive to establish the narrative framework and organize my maps in D&D Beyond. I typically prepare specific encounters on the day of the session, about an hour before it begins.

Rules are...

Rules provide structure to the game, but every now and then, they need to be broken for the sake of the story or fun.

I love it when a player

I love it when players bring a mix of chaos, humor, and creativity to the game.

I think min/maxing...

I don’t mind min/maxing, as long as your character makes sense in the context of the adventure. Go for it!
