About Sokudon

Heya! I'm a long time DM who's run dozens of offline campaigns, from short experiments to 8 year long epics. I have a degree in Game Design, which makes me uniquely suited to making custom features in my games, for NPC and PC alike! I like my PCs to be powerful, even from low levels, and often give out extra bonuses to help the mechanics fit the narrative. I also have a background in LARPing, so improv and longer narratives come naturally to me.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Running more games, making games, making props, or LARPing! I love games of all kinds, and I spend a lot of my time making things for those games!

How Sokudon runs games

I love character voices, and encourage my players find one for their characters as well! Being able to instantly tell when something is said in or out of character is a great boon to the table. I have a degree in Game Design, which makes me uniquely suited to making custom features in my games, for NPC and PC alike! I like my PCs to be powerful, even from low levels, and often give out extra bonuses to help the mechanics fit the narrative. I am obsessed with game mechanics, and prefer my roleplay to be guided and shaped by the mechanics rather than completely freeform. I will never take agency away from the player (outside of stunning effects and the like). Even when "charm spells" are in play, it is always up to the player to interpret how to respond. Generally speaking, "social" skills and abilities don't work on players like they do NPCs. I'll give the player being manipulated a bonus if they go along with the result of the die roll, but they are always free to act as they will with no penalty. This doesn't mean there are no consequences to your actions! Only that you're free to take them.

Rules are...

An interesting framework for the narrative to be structured from! No system is perfect, but the inbuilt assumptions that a game makes about how it will be played are fascinating to examine.

Sokudon's ideal table

I like a relaxed ruleset and equally relaxed players. You'll be a good fit for my table if you can go with the flow and react to new situations. At the end of the day, we're all here to make an entertaining narrative together! Well, that, and roll some dice (usually!).

I think min/maxing...

Is a great exercise in pushing a game to its limits! As long as every player has some time to shine and an ability to contribute, there's nothing wrong with being good at tweaking the system's variables!
