About Moose

I'm a queer, POC GM who's been running various games starting in D&D 3.5e/5e for around 15 years now. My various interests have led to breaking into Lancer, Blade in the Dark, CAIN, and Spire! (And anything else I can get my cold hands on) It started with trying D&D with friends growing up and in those days there weren't many who wanted to GM. I happened to like reading rules so it all fell into place. What I fell in love with was the role play actually and torturing my friends, but only in the ways they could handle. Building a story together became a past time, whether I had a game running or not I became possessed by the narrative spirit and haven't stopped ever since!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Evil, kind, and diabolical. On occasion one of those words is replaced by fair but more often then not players understand I'm there to facilitate play. To create the space for my players to drive a story they find engaging and dare I say fun. In that spirit I fully occupy the position of danger.

How Moose runs games

My style can be a bit chaotic as I ultimately like enabling player freedom/doom. Whether it be setting up for the perfect confluence of the group's actions or realizing the horror of the terrible consequences. To me it can be about fun or maybe a little terror, as long as it's engaging to my players and they feel safe to have a full experience.

Featured Prompts

I deal with rules issues by...

communicating with the players my line of thinking, what the interpretation of the rules say to me, and what may be most engaging for the group! I don't necessarily follow a rule of cool, more a rule of "If the story feels closer to what connects with the players".

Moose's ideal table

A bit of wonderlust or desire for mystery drives play best at my table. If my players lean into the mythos a bit, give themselves to the fiction a little bit here and there, dare I say embrace the curious it goes a long way. And of course I'm not allergic to the occasional interwoven bit. In fact embracing a bit of chaos has led to some of the most engaging play. Above all the principle of friendliness, be it banter or kindness, and an open curiosity prevails in my experience.
