About Simão Vaz
Hello there! I’m Simão, a Portuguese actor and professional Game Master. I have been playing TTRPGs since 2017, and I have led many projects and initiatives with the goal of opening up the hobby and community. I am very passionate about telling stories as a group. The element of collaborative storytelling is what pulled me in to TTRPGs in the first place and I feel very confident about my ability to guide players into the best version of the stories they want to tell.

I became a GM because
when I was asked to facilitate a TTRPG Youth Club. I had to quickly learn how to play Dungeons & Dragons, since I was meant to be DMing for a group of teenagers.
I got started GMing...
Dungeons & Dragons, DMing multiple one-shots and guiding the Youth TTRPG Club through character creation. The first campaing I ever GMd was Cyberpunk 2020, online for a group of friends.
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
- Cyberpunk RED, for the setting and the versatility of the stories that are told in that world. - Ten Candles, for the incredible ambience and character moments that occur during play - Vampire: The Masquerade, for the incredible character interactions and rich backstories generated during play
How Simão Vaz runs games
I love telling stories together. My favourite part of TTRPGs is facilitating the story being told, whether it be by helping with the immersion by choosing the right piece of music, or the right NPC voice, or simply by stepping back and let the scene between players unfold. I take great pride in the worlds I present to my players, giving space for each character to explore something related to their story within the larger setting.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
a hybrid of Nicolas Winding Refn and David Lynch.
My favorite trope is...
found family trope. It doesn't matter where you came from or the hand you were dealt at birth, your real family lies with those you share tears of joy and rely on during the darkest of times.
My games focus on...
exploring what makes each character click. Why they are the way they are and what it means to be a person in the world of the game. There's usually a large threat and existencial dilemma in the background, feeding character moments until the time they are ready to unite and face the common enemy.
Simão Vaz's ideal table
My table is open to all people that wish to collaborate with others in telling a character focused story. You should be as interested in everyone else’s story as your own, because that is where TTRPGs shine, in the relationship between characters. You can expect sessions that will focus on everyone, furthering their wants and needs. There will always be a space after each session to decompress and talk about things in game or outside of it!

I love it when a player
does something that is out of the box, making me have to think on my feet and even adapt the situation to that cool idea launched onto the table
I think min/maxing...
is absolutely fine when done in a manner that is aware of everyone around the table. TTRPGs are a place to tell a story collaboratively and if you’re interested in telling the story of the best fighter on the planet or the most powerful cleric, then let’s tell that story together.
My table is not the place for...
a lone wolf. A character that has no need or want to go on an adventure is a bad character for TTRPGs. It might be what your character would do, but ultimately you’re the one that made that character.
