About Marcy
Hello! I'm Marcy, and I've got over 20 years of running games under my belt. I started off in D&D 3.5, but these days I mostly play Exalted Essence, Exalted 3e, Daggerheart, PbtA games, and some Pathfinder 2e. I prefer creating a world with my players over adventure paths or pre-written games, and I have a deep love for personal character arcs in games. I also make sure that my table is always a safe, inclusive space. Being welcoming to people and making sure that everyone has a good time and feels safe enough to play their character is a huge priority for me.

I became a GM because
I like telling stories and playing a bunch of characters, and GMing lets me do that. I'm usually working up a new game idea even if I'm running a game, so I've always got a lot that I'm interested in doing.
My favorite system of all Time is
Exalted! Currently Exalted Essence, but I've been playing Exalted since first edition and even got to live a bit of a dream and be a contributing author on two of the 3e books. The epic kind of gameplay that it enables and the flawed heroes really speak to me.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Usually I'm making art for my own personal characters or writing. Those are mostly how I pay my bills, but they're also my personal hobbies. If not those, I'm usually playing some kind of video game.
How Marcy runs games
Roleplaying is my favorite part of the game, and I like to focus in on character goals and their interactions with the world around them. I do also enjoy big epic combats, but I prefer the balance of things to favor roleplay, leading up to those big dangerous moments when they are most impactful to the story. I love to tell long, involved stories where the characters get to be heroes who shape the world around them, too! Personal arcs and moments for characters are a big part of my style of running things as well.

I deal with rules issues by...
For most issues, a quick ruling on the spot followed by checking it against the rules and making a final ruling after the game. I like this, because it doesn't lose game time chasing down rules in a book.
I prep by
Making an outline of what is going on in the world, who the major players are, and what would happen if the players didn't get involved. I prefer a method of holding on loosely to my story, so I try to be responsive to the players and give their actions meaningful weight.
My games focus on...
The characters and how they interact with the world. I'm a big fan of including personal arcs into the games I run, and of connecting those arcs to whatever metaplot the game might have.
Marcy's ideal table
Players who will fit my table best are the kinds who want to get invested in the character they're playing! I like to start things off with a warm up question answered in character, some serious and some silly. It is also deeply important to me that my table is a safe place for people to be who they are — it is a lot easier to get really into character and let loose if you feel comfortable with the people around you.

I love it when a player
Makes a choice that isn't necessarily the best tactical choice. Obviously, I want to avoid the kind of "it is what my character would do" that can disrupt tables, but heroes have flaws and make mistakes. It's a fine line to walk, but I love a player who can do it!
I think metagaming...
Isn't my favorite thing in the world, but oftentimes it isn't really the end of the world either.
My perfect party mix is
Less about classes or archetypes, and more about characters with interesting views that play well together and occasionally have some tension points.
