About Ravncrest
Hi, I'm Simon (Ravncrest), a UK-based Game Master with over 30 years' experience playing TTRPGs and adjacent tabletop games and a passion for immersive storytelling, atmospheric horror, and character-driven roleplaying. For over three years I have focused heavily on GMing, having run everything from single session one-shot adventures all the way through to a long form Call of Cthulhu campaign that has now passed 40 sessions and still going strong. I regularly run Call of Cthulhu, Mothership, Alien, Vampire: The Masquerade, Mörk Borg, Pirate Borg, Mythic Bastionland, and Discworld with the list continuing to grow as new systems capture my imagination! I particularly enjoy investigative games where the atmosphere is just as important as the mystery itself. Whether I'm running horror, science fiction or dark fantasy, I aim to create games where player choices matter, characters feel grounded, and everyone has the chance to contribute to the story. Whether you're an experienced role-player or completely new to the hobby, I aim to provide a relaxed, supportive table where everyone can enjoy the experience. I run my games online using Alchemy, taking advantage of its immersive presentation to bring locations, NPCs and scenes to life. For me, the best moments in tabletop RPGs are the ones that players still talk about months later. My goal is always to create those moments while making sure everyone at the table feels welcome, respected and excited for the next session.

How Ravncrest runs games
Atmosphere is at the heart of my games. I love building worlds that feel lived in and believable, whether that's the fog-shrouded streets of 1920s Arkham, the claustrophobic corridors of a drifting spacecraft or the bleak landscapes of a dark fantasy setting. My goal is to make players feel like they're part of the world rather than simply moving pieces around a game board. I particularly enjoy investigative and character-driven games where player choices shape the story. I want my players to ask questions, follow their instincts, solve mysteries and make difficult decisions that have meaningful consequences. I generally favour theatre of the mind because I find it keeps players immersed in the story and encourages them to picture the world in their own imagination. Many of my games make extensive use of handouts, letters, newspaper clippings and other in-world props to help players investigate mysteries and immerse themselves in the setting. My role isn't to tell players what to do or lead them down a predetermined path, but to present situations where their decisions genuinely matter and the story evolves through their choices. While I value learning and applying the rules of each system, I also believe the best sessions come from balancing the rules with common sense, dramatic moments and, above all, making sure everyone at the table is having fun. My aim is for you to leave each session feeling immersed in the story and excited to find out what happens next.

I deal with rules issues by...
I believe the rules exist to support the game, not interrupt it. If a question comes up, we'll quickly check the rules together if it's straightforward. If it isn't, I'll make a fair temporary ruling so the game keeps moving and research it afterwards if needed.
I prep by
Every session starts before game night, reading the material thoroughly, thinking about NPC motivations and anticipating how player choices might change the story. I don't script outcomes. Instead, I build situations, understand the people within them and let the story develop from there.
My games focus on...
I love games where the story grows naturally from the players' decisions. No matter which system and setting we are playing, I want you to feel like your choices genuinely matter. If you enjoy immersive worlds, memorable characters and mysteries that reward curiosity, you'll feel right at home.
