About George Bradley

My name is George. I am a GM that has run everything from funhouse dungeons, to political intrigue; from psychological horror to epic fantasy and everything in between! My worlds are uniquely customised. They reflect a rich tapestry of the fantasy properties that inspire me, from official and third party D&D 5e material to television shows, novels and videogames. I believe a balance of excellent storytelling and game mechanics is the foundation of any great TTRPG and try to implement this principle into all of my games. I always love learning new systems and I am excited to expand my gaming horizons! I am based in Exeter, United Kingdom and also run online games. My table is a safe space for kind people, excited to jump into the worlds I have created.

I became a GM because

I was inspired by my friends who were running the game. I immediately realised that this was the hobby I didn't know I needed until then and as soon as I started, I knew this would be a hobby I would have for the rest of my life.

My favorite books are

Terry Pratchett's 'Discworld' series Tad Williams' 'Osten Ard' books Piranesi by Susanna Clarke His Dark Materials by Philip Pulman Every Samuel Beckett play (plays not books but I couldn't leave them out!)

How George Bradley runs games

My games are cinematic and immersive. I want my players to have agency and to make their mark on my world. At my table, I encourage players to take their time during roleplay and think critically, learning and listening to each other. My combat is kinetic, tactical and impactful with fully earned tension and suspense. The narrative will keep players on their toes; engaged and excited. Whilst I predominantly stick to the D&D 5e core rules, I often adapt them to suit the story we are telling at the table. The NPC’s that I portray are varied and memorable, using my experience as a writer, director and actor in theatre to enhance the role playing experience.

I once ran a session...

in full David Bowie in Labyrinth cosplay

I prep by

Creating a new Google Doc and noting down the expected things that could come up in the session. If I know that there will be combat I will make sure I have the relevant stat blocks, maps and tokens. Inevitably, my players will surprise me though - no matter how prepared I am!

When it comes to voices

I think they are fun but should never be the main focus. I much prefer a character to have multiple dimensions to them and to think and behave in a way that distinguished them from the person running them. If there can be a voice that comes with that, it is a nice finishing touch, but not essential.

George Bradley's ideal table

My table is a welcoming place for players of any experience level and background. Players that will fit well at my table will be people who want to take the game and narrative seriously, but also want to laugh, have fun and support each other. I typically run traditional epic fantasy style games however the style and tone of the game can change depending on the subject matter. I have run a slow-paced psychological horror game for 1 player where the rising dread crept in slowly session by session, which felt very different than when I ran Labyrinth: The Adventure Game in full Goblin King cosplay!

I love it when a player

picks up on small clues and hints that have been dropped throughout a campaign. My favourite thing is when I can see someone connecting the dots!

I think it's a red flag when players...

ignore the tone of the world and people within in it, creating joke themes and characters that consciously don't belong in the setting. Additionally anyone who does not respect or show kindness to players at the table.
