About Otter

Hi! I'm James, but my handles used are MalachiteRain and Queen Otter! I'm a DM from Eastern Europe with a penchant for the more gritty aspects of Tabletop Roleplaying and custom-made settings. I wish to host games and adventures therein because I find it a much more rewarding experience to let my creativity and story entertain people, and the opportunity to do so is quite alluring. From me you can expect intriguing plotlines in custom and very fleshed out settings that I make using the systems at hand. Twists to your staples to enhance them, as well as a great dedication to immersing players in the world at large. Fantasy was my beginning and I have since leaned more into Sci-fi and cyberpunk settings. My tenure as GM has been around 9 years or so, starting with D&D 3.5 after just reading the Dungeon Master's Guide. Since then I've been a Forever GM of sorts with the majority of my time cutting my teeth on 3.5, Pathfinder and finally 5th edition D&D. 5e is my system of choice, but that doesn't mean I am not up for running other systems such as Call of Cthulhu, Pathfinder 1e or even Dark Heresy.

I got started GMing...

When I was still in highschool. Internet baby and yet only found out about the hobby then. Found a PDF online of the Player's Handbook, printed it out and that's how it started!

How Otter runs games

My style is summarised with 'actions have consequences'. These consequences are not over the top and follow the weight of the action as well as past dealings the players had or do afterwards. I enjoy tactical combat and have been consistently making encounters that are tough but rewarding alongside narrative weight (combat for combat's sake is not my cup of tea), and is used to enhance roleplay with stakes and challenges. Roleplay is most welcome and encouraged. We are forging a story of your characters and what they do, not what I think is right to happen or be done. My settings tend to go against the norm and are designed to intrigue and tantalize with new player options, homebrew creatures and lots more.
