About me

Here be tales of eldritch horrors, gritty adventures and the shattering of The Illusion.... Here be dragons. Greetings my fellow gamers! I am Game Master and Keeper of Eldritch Lore - (the Right Reverend) Mindspawn, a.k.a., Gene, your guide and narrator in the realms of horror, science fiction and more! My games are spun from a rich tapestry of more than four decades of storytelling. I have helped to guide the journeys of countless adventurers, investigators and seekers through mystical lands, horror infested swamps, waging battles against cosmic horrors, in quests for ancient artifacts and through grand travels spanning not only continents, but worlds in distant galaxies. My desire is to welcome newcomers (and experienced gamers) to the table of this grand tradition and wondrous pastime. It is my distinct pleasure to answer any and all of your questions and queries, no matter how complex or simple you feel they may be. One pretty big point to note, I largely play indie games. Call of Cthulhu (and its various settings, Classic, Pulp, Dark Ages, Gaslight, etc.) has the most popularity of the games I play. In addition to Call of Cthulhu, games I run and support are games like Kult: Divinity Lost, Mothership, Ultraviolet Grasslands, not so much D&D (nothing negative toward D&D, but there are plenty of DMs out there supporting that). I lean more OSR, narrative driven, fiction first and prefer allowing players considerable agency. If you want something that's outside the typical D&D experience, we may be a good fit. I create a welcoming space that is a sanctuary of inclusivity and respect, where every player, no matter their background or experience, can partake in the incredible creation of storytelling. In my role as Keeper or Game Master, I blend the experience of the OSR ways with the openness of the new approaches, I am dedicated to crafting a gaming experience that celebrates creativity, diversity, and camaraderie. I've played a variety of campaigns across a variety of spaces that range from a humble living rooms to big conventions, from local game shops to online haunts. If you'll join me, I extend my hand to you in fellowship to embark on a journey, and together, let’s weave a story that will captivate and entertain. Let's roll some dice and live a tale of our own telling!

GM Style

Here is what you can expect from my games: I'm a flexible GM, I lean toward narrative driven sessions and I enjoy giving players a fair amount of agency. I love collaboratively creating stories together. World building is something I lavish time on, including creating cool handouts, soundscapes, music and more for each session to help players deepen their immersion of the setting. I encourage my players to contribute to the story and engage with the other players at the table. I enjoy creating voices, mannerisms, quirks and so on for the characters I play and I love it when my players do that for their characters as well. Every voice matters and I want each person at the table to have a chance to really shine and show off their character. My approach leverages our collective imagination, player cooperation (even when their characters are antagonistic) and actively fanning sparks of creativity. I favor active roleplaying, in-depth investigations, collective problem solving, and though combat is often secondary in my games, when it happens it's cerebral, cinematic and serves the story. I also design games, so please if you have a crazy idea that's outside the scope of the setting or rules, let me know and we can bounce some ideas around to figure out if there's a way to accommodate your vision.
