About Matt Price

I have been GMing tabletop games, specifically D&D 5e, for about 14 years. I truly enjoy doing it! It's so wonderful to help players achieve the kind of characters they want to create, as well as helping new players find a new favorite hobby, especially if that hobby is make-believe with plastic number rocks. That being said, there are many joys of running one of these games, but as we all do, we occasionally run into difficult situations at the table. Sometimes it's a player, sometimes is people have bad chemistry at the table. When situations like this arise, it needs to be handled gently but with just the right amount of authority so as not to abuse authority, but also letting them know that they are not the main character, or maybe to help them realize their actions are hurting those around them. All in all, I love tabletop games and creating a story with others!

How Matt Price runs games

I love knowing what the players like and try to tailor the sessions to those likes and dislikes. I generally default to high fantasy, horror, or sea-faring. As that is where I am most comfortable. I also enjoy combat with high stakes and enjoy mixing up combat sometimes, so it's not just fight to the death all the time. With all that being said, my goal is to make sure that every player is enjoying themselves and that their creativity is being rewarded!

I deal with rules issues by...

Using the rule of two! When we disagree on a rule, I give two attempts to elaborate more or convince me otherwise, but if I say no both times, then that's the answer. I have had many situations while using this rule when I realised I misunderstood the player's intent, and we worked something out!

My favorite trope is...

My favorite trope will always be the big, strong, and dumb brute with an even bigger heart. Bonus points if they care about the safety of children and will protect them at all costs!

When it comes to voices

I enjoy doing them! Whether it be by me or the players at the table, they are absolutely welcome, and there will be no judgment! I think voices are a great way to immerse yourself in your character!

Matt Price's ideal table

The table style is very relaxed, but can become tense when dramatic points in the story arise. Yet has the total ability to be silly and goofy. I am also one who enjoys pairing moments with music, so rest assured, there will almost always be music or sound effects.

I love it when a player

Puts a creative twist on their character that may require some complicated mechanical rework, but I truly enjoy it because they all usually end up having the time of their lives playing the character of their dreams.

My table is not the place for...

Bullying, sexism, racism, pro/anti-religion, pro/anti-politics. All are welcome, no matter who you are. I just ask that wherever you come from, you do not try to shove your worldview into someone else's perspective on life.
