About Marc
Following what was a 25 year hiatus, I have firmly found my feet again in TTRPGs. Dungeons & Dragons 5e being my go-to system of choice having DM'd for the majority of the editions lifespan and for many groups. I do voices now and then(!). My primary focus lies in descriptive language, consequential narrative, and making the PCs feel like an important part of the story, as well as part of the world. I've built a fluency with Roll20, my VTT of choice, a pro subscriber, utilising music & effects for atmosphere, APIs to make games more dynamic and swift.

How Marc runs games
An emphasis on collaborative story-telling is encouraged and the experience of the story and game over the rules as written, I value player agency and will use the rule of cool occasionally. Avoiding combat or achieving goals outside of combat can be efficient ways of collecting experience. On that, I tend to use milestone for XP and levels to keep everyone at the same power levels. I don't like hogging all the talk time, so I like to set things up for players and then hand over to you the players, I like to reward creative thinking or good roleplaying. Roleplay: Yes! Voices are not required, I will only do voices sometimes. You can either speak 'as' your character or describe what they say in 3rd person. Eg. "Hey shopkeep, how much for these fancy arrows?" vs. "Elsie is going to ask how much the magic arrows cost". Ambiance: Absolutely! Expect maps, music, handouts and short descriptions of your surroundings. Puzzles: Not in every session, but yes! These can be as simple or as hard as needed, depending on how much a group enjoys them. Tactical combat: I am not into over-complex combat, but will vary the combat from one session to another to keep it interesting. I will not force combat to happen if it doesn't make narrative sense. Mostly, I am here to collaboratively tell a good story with you about your characters. The rules and the adventures are just there to give us the tools to do that. If I'm your DM, you can expect me to be accountable, reliable, prepared, and engaged from week to week, including between sessions. If that sounds like you as well, get involved.
