About Maple

Hey there, adventurer! My name is Maple, and I'm here to dive deep into a world richer than your wildest dreams. I'm a 22-year-old trans woman from the West Coast of the USA, and my greatest hobby is telling stories that explore worlds, create thrilling environments, and challenge players to see their characters in ways they never have. I am here to build an experience, to make you laugh, cry, or both. I am here to help YOU build the story you want to build, with others who want to create their own stories. Okay, that's enough fancy talk- I'm not a movie trailer. Truth be told, I like playing TTRPGs. If you're looking for a GM who is passionate about their craft and spares no detail, you've come to the right place. This is also a place where we go light on the rules. The rules as they are given are a guideline for me, a good way to understand the spirit of the game. When playing in systems I am less than familiar with its easier to follow the rules more strictly, but that only lasts as long as it needs to. To me, the story is the most important thing. That means if something is cool, or fun, or cinematic or even just silly, I'll probably let you do it. We'll figure it out as we go along! There are no restrictions when you're creating your own narrative. There also aren't any restrictions when it comes to who is allowed at my table! I welcome people of all identities and experience levels. Feel free to join a game and we can write an amazing story together!

I became a GM because

I enjoy telling stories, but what I enjoy even more is working with others to create the best stories we can! I love to work *with* my players so that we can create a character with depth, and give that character a story that is emotional and powerful.

How Maple runs games

As a GM, my main focus is creating a scenario in which you, the player, can shine. This means a little less rip-and-tear combat, and a lot more emotional turmoil and strategic choices. I hardly ever have my tables roll intiative unless they have put themselves in a situation where there is truly no other option. That being said, sometimes a small fight can be meaningful to the narrative! If you want to show off your character's insane build, you will definitely get the chance to do so. My inspiration for the story usually comes from the characters within it. If you join my game, expect that your character will grow and change, just as people do. Expect to think about your character in more ways than one, and to give them the depth that makes them more than just an idea. Most of all, expect your character to be *tested*, to be confronted by themselves, and to experience real emotions! This is a story, after all, and no good story is complete without emotional conflict.

Rules are...

Merely a framework by which we structure our story. I care much more about the cinematics of things, as well as how something fits into a narrative. That being said, I will still check the rules from time to time, just to make sure things aren't getting too out of hand. Rule of Cool is life!

When it comes to voices

I try to make NPCs memorable by giving them voices that match them as a character, while letting them stand out and be recognizable. I am still building my repertoire of voices, but part of the fun of doing them is trying new things and being a bit silly :D
