About Lucas G Variety
Hello! I'm an old school gamer who's a husband and father of two, along with two dogs and a cat! Family and God are my everything, but after that we game! I've played everything from 2nd edition D&D and up! I'm 45 now and have been playing RPGs since I was about 12 years old. My majority of time with RPGs has been me as a Gamemaster, but I still love taking a seat as a player! I've loved writing, storytelling, acting, and entertaining for just about as long as I can remember! Fantasy is my key genre, but I love a great tale from any time and place. I love a great story with heroes, villains, plot twists, drama, and action! I focus on the main story as much as individual storylines. I make sure to rotate and give every player their time in the spotlight, and am always first in line to help them with any issues, in-game or out. I enjoy good, friendly games that are fair and organized and respectful. I have specific rules, lines, and veils I adhere to, and I expect others to follow the same. I am fair, I love to entertain others, and have a great time creating lasting memories and stories together. Let's game!

I got started GMing...
when I was about 12 or 13 years old! That's over 30 years of RPG experience, and 95% of that was from GMing! I've run from D&D 2nd Edition up through many different games in our current time. I love, love, LOVE, GMing!
My favorite system of all Time is
Dungeons & Dragons. However, Call of Cthulhu, The Walking Dead Universe RPG, and the Apocalypse World system games are right up there as well!
When I'm not running games I'm...
a husband, father, Christian who cares for my kids, works part time, and enjoys the fellowship of family and friends whenever we can squeeze the time in!
How Lucas G Variety runs games
I run games that mix strong roleplay, tactical combat, and a good dose of drama that is all focused on the players. I love tense character moments, but we'll have many bits of comical intervention along the way. I love humor, and incorporating it appropriately into our stories and gatherings is a must! There’s usually a solid main story driving things, but I always leave space for character arcs, surprises, and player choices that shake things up. Whether it’s a tense standoff, a heartfelt moment, or a wild twist no one saw coming—my goal is to make every session memorable and fun.

I deal with rules issues by...
Referring to the rules and going with them, unless it's hindering our story. Then we'll change on the fly if necessary. Some rules are iron bound, but others can be bent or even broken if it makes our story more entertaining!
Rules are...
a means to an end. Like anything, without rules, it is all chaos. It gives us a structure in which to base our narrative around. Rules are important, but not so important that they cannot be changed or eradicated when they may hinder the story we are creating.
When it comes to voices
I highly encourage people to use them! We need to, obviously, to communicate over the web when we game. But character voices are highly encouraged!...but NOT REQUIRED! I want everyone to feel comfortable at the table, so you do what is best for you and your PC. FYI, I have many horrible voices!
Lucas G Variety's ideal table
My vibe is a friendly, but organized game. It will be full of adventure and roleplaying, and will give all the players time to shine in the spotlight. Players that are invested and involved in the game and their characters are what we want here. It's a world of consequences, and every choice impacts it. I run a respectable table and have morals and rules that I expect everyone to respect. I don't tolerate coarse language and using God's name as a curse. I use a binary gender system of male and female. I like players that are older due to their maturity and life experience, but it's also great to have new blood and youngsters eager to learn and have a good time. Players that are proactive in character creation, leveling up, assisting me in anything extra that needs doing, are early/on time for gaming, and willing to stay a little over, are the players I want at the table. Additionally, players who come with the focus of telling their character's story, along with building the overall story together, while having fun doing it, creates the ideal tabletop experience! These are my values and my comfort. No exceptions. If this doesn't gel with your values then this isn't the table for you. Let's Game!

I love it when a player
Fill outs a complete character background. This gives me an idea of who they are and what they've been through. A colorful past of dark secrets, enemies, loved ones, etc. This not only aids the player in developing their character, but it gives me resources to use for their personal stories.
I think metagaming...
is a crime against RPGs! It is an unfortunate product of knowing what what your character does not, and it happens whether we like it to or not. In small increments it's not bad. I gently point it out when it occurs. However, blatant and purposeful metagaming will not be tolerated at my table.
My perfect party mix is
My best friends and new people who come together for the same love of RPGs that I have. I love mature, experienced players that have seen a few years of real life/gaming along with those that don't. However, game experience doesn't matter. We'll teach you! Also, having a Rules Lawyer is a big help!
