About Lotus Child
Hey, I'm Lotus, I've been GMing for 15 years. I like to run open-world adventures where your character feels challenged but also feels like they can make a difference. I emphasize consequences, not punishment for actions. I prioritize story-telling over punishing combat or rigid roleplay. I also use my own d20 system that I've been developing for 10 years!

I got started GMing...
In high school, one of my friends tried to get us into DnD 3.5 and dropped out as GM cuz it was too hard. I pulled a story out of my butt, didn't read the rules and just rolled a d20 for giggles and killed a few hours. I got better though, promise.
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
I actually reached out to my players and here's what I got back: - Innovative - Well-Informed - Engaging Make of that what you will.
When I'm not running games I'm...
At work as an RBT, doing woodwork or handyman work, working on one of my tabletop rpg systems, working on a poem/song/my book, drawing.
How Lotus Child runs games
I value planning and consequences in my stories. I'll always provide each player their unique times to shine and I am always open to feedback and requests for how you'd like to make your experience even better! I reward careful planning and epic moments as well as encourage players to let their characters show growth through action and story.

My games focus on...
how the world moves around the player characters. Don't get me wrong, I'm invested in the PC's stories, but I believe that what makes a PC's story great is the organic, living, moving world that breathes around that PC. I want to make the world alive for you so that you feel like your story matters.
Rules are...
a great framework to get a story started, but ultimately they are meant to bent and in some cases broken. I am more invested in how the story unfolds, even if that means I have to make work-arounds for some of the rules in order to have a story beat happen.
When it comes to voices
I don't do accents and inflections for every character but my regular players will tell you that the characters with special voices are memorable. In some instances, they'll remember a character more by the way I perform their voice rather than their name or appearance.
Lotus Child's ideal table
My ideal table is full of players (new and vet) who are excited to build a story with me, one of love, loss, a fall from grace, a redemption, a tragedy, a heroic triumph in an organic way. You'll fit right into my table if you are willing to take a loss in my story as just another story beat and not a failure of yourself or your character.

I love it when a player
Gets into character. If you're a merchant, spend time actually BEING a merchant, if you're a cleric, learn about your god and roleplay with that knowledge, educate your party, if you're a fighter, show me how you take care of your gear, why it matters to you, how you eye new gear in town.
I think metagaming...
has a time and a place, but it's not at my table. I like having characters operate with only the knowledge that they as the character would have, that limit introduces drama and pressure and intrigue.
My table is not the place for...
Players who only care about winning every encounter. Sorry. Sometimes you're going to lose a battle, a war, a loved one. Sometimes your character may die. It's the story, it's the dice. I'll work with you to make your character's story interesting but the guy who wins every fight isn't interesting.
