About Evan Fusco

Evan Fusco (they/them b.1994) is a Lecturer, Writer, Artist, and GM. Utilizing their backgrounds in other fields and prioritizing explorations of ideas as much as gameplay, their games engage in questions of how we see reality, the individual’s relationship to the ecosystem, animistic imaginings of a living world, and the small moments that shift the story. They have worked with Wizard Staffing Co., Chicago Roleplayer’s Guild, Leveleater, as well as with individual clients in private home games. They are always looking for more players to craft imaginative and compelling one shots and short campaigns for. Recently they began Lingua Arcana An initiative to create spaces for fantastical, affordable, and thought provoking TTRPG events at local event spaces.

I became a GM because

I wanted to play more TTRPG's and the form of collaborative and sometimes theatrical storytelling is crucial to my artistic and theoretical practice.

My favorite system of all Time is

DnD, which often receives a lot of flack, some of it well deserved, some less so. But its core structure allows for such flexibility and versatility within your storytelling that other systems don't always allow for without feeling as if you've fully left the point of it.

When I'm not running games I'm...

working as a teacher, risograph printer, bartender, artist, writer, etc.

How Evan Fusco runs games

I am deeply invested in the stroytelling capabilities of TTRPG using the mechanics and dice rolls to help guide the story. Invested in what is possible within the genre I focus on the story utilizing a collective storybuilding structure that engages your roleplaying. Alongside this I enjoy crafting through the mechanics of the game situations that exist within dice rolls and your particular character traits, whether that be travel, exploration, or combat.

I deal with rules issues by...

Looking up the information and making a quick ruling to try and avoid issues later on. More often than not, however, changes to rules as written when done interestingly by players will be allowed through a dice roll to honor the decision while giving it stakes.

Rules are...

the things which allow us to structure our stories, they are another actor alongside ourselves and the dice.

When it comes to voices

I try to do my best and keep it varied.

Evan Fusco's ideal table

My ideal table is full of people willing to commit to telling a narrative through collaborative play. People who want to mess around and play with how mechanics can be reworked and restructured to help elucidate the narrative we are building together. Theatrical and writerly people who have enough of an understanding to mess with the system and think expansively about are always welcome. However, people who are also willing to grow, learn, and participate are sought just as much.

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

committed enough that serious and comedic blend into each other in a way that never feels forced or out of place.

My table is not the place for...

rigid players who aren't willing to pay attention, listen, and respond. If you aren't willing to change expectations and participate in discovery this may not be the table for you.
