About Laura

🏳️‍🌈 I always had trouble answering the question, "What is your passion?" That is, until I started playing D&D 5 years ago. It quickly became an obsession and once I switched from player to DM there was no going back to life without it. I’ve been DM-ing for 4 years now, both in person and online. All I want is more D&D in my life! It took me so long to try D&D because of my social anxiety and I don't want that to be the reason anyone else is hesitant to play. My table is welcoming, inclusive, and LGBTQ+ friendly. I want everyone to feel safe, respected, and excited to show up and play. Whether you’re newer to the game or very experienced, my goal is to create a space where we can tell a good story together. I want to use my GM earnings to buy and share more content on D&D Beyond so my players have access to more options and resources! I do this as a part-time job to cover student loans, but if there is a D&D Beyond resource you would like access to for one of my campaigns I will gladly add it to my library(within reason, of course).

I got started GMing...

because I couldn't stick to playing one character for a long time! I wanted to experiment with all kinds of builds and personalities, and learn everything I could about the game. I’ve since learned that I truly love guiding players through the story we’re creating!

When I'm not running games I'm...

thinking about them 😅 But really, outside of D&D I'm a gamer, data analyst, animal lover, and musician.

How Laura runs games

I really enjoy building backstories with my players and watching them discover how their ideas have been woven into the campaign. I want what’s happening in the campaign to actually matter to your character! My goal is that there should always be at least one member of the party who can answer "Why would I care about this?" with something other than "Because it's the obvious plot-hook." I would consider my approach to be rules-medium: I care about the mechanics, but I care more about the story we’re telling together. However, if we ignore too many rules then some feats and abilities become pointless. I believe that real risks make combat more exciting and compelling. Winning combat is not always guaranteed and "winning" doesn't always mean just killing all the enemies. I’m very inspired by the tone and world building of Critical Role: rich settings, layered character arcs, and room for emotional moments alongside humor and adventure. I use a lot of maps and images. As a player with ADHD, I noticed that holding all of the information in my head theater-of-the-mind style was very difficult for me. I don't want my players to feel that same frustration.

I deal with rules issues by...

making a decision in the moment and then confirming or changing it later. I generally lean in favor of what is better for the players, with the reminder that the rule can be applied to enemies too! Be careful what you wish for 😈

When it comes to voices

Accents and special voices are always welcome but there is no pressure to use one. I’m always working on improving my NPC voices. I’m no voice actor, but that means you can feel comfortable experimenting with voices too! You can even try something out and change it if you aren't feeling it.

Laura's ideal table

My ideal table is made up of curious, collaborative players who enjoy telling a story together. If you like getting invested in your character, reacting to the world around you, and helping build a shared narrative with the group, you’ll feel right at home here. The vibe at my table is welcoming, respectful, and story-forward. We balance roleplay, exploration, and combat, and I encourage players to engage with NPCs, factions, and each other. Not just as quest-givers or obstacles, but as parts of a living world. I love when players bring creative ideas, emotional depth, and humor to the story. This table is a great fit for: • Players who enjoy playing out character arcs • New players who are excited to learn in a friendly, low-pressure environment • Experienced players who want meaningful choices and narrative impact It may be less ideal for players who prefer purely tactical, combat-only play or a competitive, adversarial table style. My goal is to create a space where everyone feels comfortable taking creative risks, sharing the spotlight, and helping each other shine. Above all, I aim for a table that feels like a found family. A group of heroes (and occasionally lovable troublemakers) navigating a dangerous world together, laughing often, and creating a story we’ll remember long after the campaign ends.

I think metagaming...

has different degrees. I don't mind some tactical conversation during combat as long as it doesn't slow things down. A player looking up monster stat-blocks or reading the module? That's a big red flag for me.
