About Jacob

I have been playing TTRPGs for over two decades and have been a professional Game Master for five years, both in person and virtually. Since 2023, I have been GMing and playing TTRPGs on Twitch, expanding my experience and repertoire of systems that I can run. Whether you are looking to play D&D or another TTRPG, wanting to play a one-shot or a long-term campaign, I am an experienced GM who wants to bring your next adventure to life.

I became a GM because

my forever GM wanted to be a player, and like a blessing (or a curse, depending on who you ask), I became the forever GM.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

The One Ring, Old Gods of Appalachia, and Kids on Bikes

When I'm not running games I'm...

Running a small business, making custom costumes and cosplays, embroidered clothing and artwork, and digital art--including character art, monsters, maps, and settings.

How Jacob runs games

I love stories, and I love using various tools and techniques to make a story feel real. I find that utilizing character voices and roleplaying are two tools that help make this a reality. But I also recognize that games like these cannot just be the characters speaking with NPCs who have possibly silly names and sillier voices, but we need action to. And the action should be both cinematic but also terrifying, at times. For me, the kobolds will never run into the adventurers head on, they will set ambushes and traps, they will plan and scheme, they will do whatever it takes to defeat the party. There need to be stakes within the story we are telling, and having monsters and NPCs fight tactically makes the experience more enjoyable for everyone.

My games focus on...

player enjoyment and telling a really good story. The mantra I live by as a GM is that this is not my table, it's our table; this is not my world, it's our world; this is not my world, it's our world. Players have much creative input in the game as I do, because we are telling a story together.

Rules are...

more of a guide. I believe that the 'Rule of Cool' has as much validity as the 'Rules as Written' do. I also have several homebrewed rules that I have cultivated over the many years of being a GM that I feel make game play more meaningful and dynamic.

When it comes to voices

I love immersing the table into the roleplay by utilizing voices and am always excited when the players bring their own voices to the table, though it is never a requirement.

Jacob's ideal table

My philosophy when it comes to GMing is that this is not my story, it's our story; it's not my world, it's our world; it;s not my table, it's our table. Whether it is a one-shot, a mini-series, or a longform campaign, I truly believe that every person who sits at the table is pivotal to creating a great story and playing an incredible game.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

epic stories, laughs, memorable voices, in-depth roleplay, and an all-around good time

I love it when a player

Get so into a scene, so deep into roleplaying with each other that I can sit back, grab a bucket of popcorn, and watch. It's like going to the movies, sometimes better.

I think min/maxing...

Is a lot of fun. Hell, I min/max from time to time. But, if you are going to min/max, you also need to make sure your character is not just "the most powerful just because." Give them pathos, depth, and intrigue. No one wants to play across from the guy who made the powerful choices just because.
