About Jeri Starr

I am a queer friendly DM/GM and I am they/them femme myself. I am a professional writer and creator. I have a lot of knowledge about social anxiety and using games for that. I have run many workshops for RPGs and worked with new players for decades. I hosted a DnD server for 200 people during 2020-2021. I am also a huge board game nerd and I run a monthly Queer Game Night. I know how to work with a variety of groups and group needs. I create safe space gaming for all identities. I would rather have you world-build than just hex-crawl. I can be booked for private and custom games. See my time availability. I currently offer DnD one-shots. I offer Date Night DnD romance adventures from the Red Light Library for couples, throuples, and friends with roleplaying benefits. I have official WotC campaigns, both short and long, that I can run for you, including Temple of Annihilation, Princes of the Apocalypse, Curse of Strahd, Rhyme of the Frostmaiden, and others. I often tweak or rework these to be more gender-neutral or queer. I can do custom DnD, Fate, Achtung! Cthulhu, Fallout, Coyote and Crow, or other game systems for you and your group. I am currently offering Stranger Morning Cartoons, a 4-5 session mini-campaign set in a world based on 1980s cartoons and rock music.

My favorite books are

Anything by Robert E. Howard, Arthur C. Clarke, Agatha Christie, or Margaret Weiss. I also love some Charlaine Harris when I want something trashy. I like Stephen King a lot, but mostly the early stuff. Huge fan of mysteries, horror, fantasy and sci-fi.

My favorite shows/movies are

Shows: Supernatural, Gotham, Lost Girl, Ugly Betty Futurama, American Dad, Bob's Burgers, etc. Movies: Marvel Universe Movies, Fast and Furious Movies, the Dungeons and Dragons movie, Halloween, Aliens, anything with strong female leads.

How Jeri Starr runs games

I run above average games that are safe spaces for players to experiment and play in. I use voice acting, music, and will encourage you to help world-build and story-tell. My VTT skills are pretty amazing. I like storytelling and I use a lot of storyteller boards. I usually try to work in as many chases or puzzles as I can so that it is not always combat. I like a good balance of action, whether it is puzzles or combat, and roleplay. I like to run games that can be non-violent if you want, and I like adventures that are more cerebral than just the typical dungeon-crawl.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

Guillermo del Toro

My favorite trope is...

Horror and/or Fantasy

Rules are...

...there to keep everyone on track and on the same page. They are not there to get in the way of fun, though.

Jeri Starr's ideal table

I keep things light and laughable most of the time. We get serious when we are roleplaying and when we go into combat. I like to keep everything and everyone in character.

Featured Prompts

I love it when a player

...contributes to world-building and helps further the story without trying to derail everything for the rest of the group.

I think it's a red flag when players...

...do not respect other player's identity and sensibilities. It's why I don't allow sexual situations at my table and I keep the profanity to a minimum. Not everyone is going to tell you that you are offending them, nor should they have to. That's when I step in.

I think metagaming...

...is problematic, but necessary. I prefer "I am badly wounded" to "I have 2hps left."
