About Jay

Hey! My name’s Jay, and I’m a writer and Literature & Linguistics student from South East England. Thank you for taking an interest in my profile! Having grown up writing fantasy and playing D&D on both sides of the table, I’d say I know my way around a spell book. Whether I am running an existing module or a homebrew campaign, I try to give all of my games a fun and immersive mix of exploration and combat. My favourite aspects of TTRPGs are the worldbuilding and problem solving - as well as the diverse community. My tables will always be disability, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC friendly, and I enjoy running beginner-level campaigns as well as games for more experienced players (ideally a mix of both around the same table). All my campaigns will be run via Discord (cameras optional), with occasional use of D&D Beyond and/or other platforms depending on the party’s interest. I generally use some maps and some theatre of the mind, as well as incorporating audio for immersion. I am always open to feedback so, if there is anything you are particularly looking for in a campaign, please let me know and we can have a chat about it. (Note: currently I am only using D&D 5e - either 2014 or 2024 - though I am open to learning other systems.)

I started running games because...

I love using fiction and fantasy to connect with others, and I wanted to be able to introduce others to the world of TTRPGs.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Working on a writing project or studying for my degree.

How Jay runs games

My style is exploration heavy - I like to hide clues and worldbuilding everywhere, and everything circles back to the lore and culture of the world we’re playing in. I also like my games to include a relatively equal balance of roleplay and combat (i.e. if the players haven’t fought anything for a while, expect a random encounter to switch up the pace!)

Rules are...

Flexible! If a rule as written isn't working for the party, there's nothing wrong with changing it to keep everybody happy and engaged.

Jay's ideal table

My favourite tables to GM for are an accepting space where everybody feels comfortable to be themselves. Many of the tables I have GMed for have been a mix of personalities and experience levels; I find that bringing new players together with people who have been playing for years can help everybody develop and feel more comfortable roleplaying, so I really advocate for this dynamic. If you enjoy a fun and collaborative vibe (and the occasional shenanigan), you'll fit in just fine.

I love it when a player

Feels confident enough to fully embody their character and engage with the campaign through their shoes. I'm a big fan of roleplay and will always encourage it.

My table is not the place for...

Discrimination, judgement, or hate of any kind. I also won't stand for metagaming or other behaviours that make the game unfair and/or less enjoyable for the rest of the party.
