About James "Hez"

Greetings! I'm James but you can call me Hez! I've started playing and eventually GM'ing in the year of 2021. When the world halted and everyone was force to stuck inside, TTRPG became my escape. Allowing me to go on memorable adventures, talk to many wondrous people, be amazed by the works that were produced just for this hobby. All in the comfort of my home. My goal as a GM is to share these experiences of wonder, whimsy, and emotions to you. So as your GM/DM/Narrator, here’s what you can expect when you join my adventures: - A Welcoming and Safe Environment: I pride myself on ensuring that your voice is heard. As such I take extensive drive to ensure that you have a safe environment allowing you to be comfortable to express yourself. This is my standard throughout my games. - An Immersive Experience: Utilizing background music, storytelling techniques, and mood setting, I give my games a sort of “breath of life” that helps you get into the story. Furthermore, I ensure that the contents of the adventure are never forced upon you. So it feels that each choice results in consequences whether it is good or bad. - Player-Sided GM: I abhor the Player vs. GM mentality. TTRPG is a collaborative experience and having such a friction relationship between Player and GM spoils that. As such often, I utilize Rule-of-Cool more so than Rule-As-Written. If there’s rules that are ambiguous or require a long down-time to consolidate, I will intervene and rule in favor of the player. This is so the energy never drops and the story keeps continuing. - Accessible: If you have any questions or concerns regarding the game, rules, or just need a little help. I’m always willing to lend a hand. While it may take a moment to reply, I will not leave any message unanswered. If I don’t have the answers, I will take time to find a third-party source that can hopefully help you. - Consistently Developing: No one is perfect, including me. So I always ask for feedback from the players to let me know what works and what doesn’t. I’m always tweaking the adventure to offer you a satisfying game. “Everyone has a story to tell. As we all have a story worth telling” This is a phrase that I live by. As TTRPG is a collaborative experience, everyone at the table should enjoy the game in their own way. Your voice matters and is always heard, as I'm always working to make sure there's a space where it is respectful, open, and supportive. To hear my players have a grand time after each session and wanting more. It gives me unbridled joy and satisfaction. Give me the energy to continue this path and improve even just a little. I would like to see you soon in one of my games! Exploring untold lands and living an adventure worth reminiscing—Together.

I became a GM because

I want to show everyone the beauty that is collaborative storytelling. Telling story that we can all laugh at down the line saying, "Man, what a good time that was."

My favorite shows/movies are

Anime: Frieren (absolute masterclass), Hitman:Reborn!, Letter Bee, Show: Hospital Playlist, The Pitt, The Trauma Code (All Medical Lmao) Movie: John Wick Series, The Adam Sandler Cinematic Universe (This is important), The Book of Life, Many of Studio Ghibli Films

When I'm not running games I'm...

completing my Bachelor's in Nursing, Play Video games, watch Youtube, and doomscrolling. (I need to fix that last part)

How James "Hez" runs games

I love Roleplaying! As such I will dedicate a ton of time to ensure my players will have a immersive experience. Expect music, scene setting, and character voices. Also the narrative is player-driven, as your choice mean something and influence the story in someway.

My games focus on...

the players characters and how they transverse the setting of the campaign. The idea is that the setting of a module/adventure is the canvas while the players are artists that will add color on the setting!

Rules are...

necessary to prevent the sessions/campaign for going out of control. At the same time, is not something that everyone should follow religiously. I always lean more to rule in favor of the player, because it's cool or it narratively makes sense.

James "Hez"'s ideal table

The general vibe that I strive for is a chill and open table. Where each player's voice is heard and are comfortable to stretch their creative muscle. Essentially, every shananigans is a Go! As long as it doesn't break the game and follow somesort of logic.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End The emotional weight, storytelling, and worldbuilding is what I constantly strive for.

I love it when a player

find creative solutions to a problem, I see that they are completely immerse to the story, and Roleplay their hearts out while maintaining respect to other players.

My table is not the place for...

players looking for more dungeon crawl like games, murder hobo behaviors, primarily combat adventure. I want the players to interact and I want to show the cool world they are exploring. These type of players, I don't see enjoy those types of games.
