About Herald
Greetings all, I'm Herald. Around 7 years ago, a friend invited me to their D&D campaign and it opened up a new world for me... many worlds. Due to the oh-so-familiar circumstance, I became a forever DM shortly after and thoroughly enjoy it, trying out more and more systems since. I love heroic tales of common people standing up against great odds, chosen ones fulfilling their destinies (or defying it if the players feel like it), or even dastard rogues finding their own redemption. All stories have their own charm, and I'm happy to be the artist who paints the stage for yours.

I became a GM because
I want to play and it's actually very hard to find the right game. So, well, might as well step up and make it.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Playing video games, reading novels, or drawing.
How Herald runs games
I have a preference for stories with a slow start that quickly ramp up once the turning point happens. A big event only means anything when the people affected by it can feel the impact. I strive for the excitement when the characters arrive at their moment of truth under the spotlight, the exhilaration when all their decisions prior show their long-lasting effect at the last moment before curtain call. Your choices matter and they will always do. By now, you should already be able to tell that I'm a dramatic person with a burning passion for immersive storytelling. On the other hand, I have a pretty firm grasp of the rules and mechanics. I have been continuously DMing for multiple campaigns and a few West March servers in the past 7 years. Perhaps I will make a mistake once in a while, but I definitely won't let that ruin a player's experience. I'm flexible if nothing else. Homebrew is my bread and improv is my jam. I don't have a fixed route for my players, what they do with the stuff given is on themselves (with a slight nudge only when they freeze up). More often than not, that leads to solutions that are beyond me and require a quick reaction from the GM.

I deal with rules issues by...
Telling my players my intention and the logic behind my rulings. They'll share their perspective, and we'll go with whichever make more sense.
Rules are...
Agreements made between all parties at the table, can be disregarded if everyone agrees to but otherwise remain untouchable.
When it comes to voices
I'm not the best at it, lol. My accent game ain't there but if it comes to emotional acting, I'm confident that I can pull it off.
Herald's ideal table
I love curious and energetic players, those who actively engage with the setting. Working with those whose characters have personal goal beside simply following whatever bread crump I put down is always a blast. My ideal table is one where everyone encourage each other to 'mess around and find out' but understand the stake, gush about each other's character's actions, and can comfortably pass loots around.

I love it when a player
Privately message me their wants and thoughts about the game. It helps me plan ahead on how to make future session exciting.
I think metagaming...
Is fine to a degree. It's generally unavoidable since even knowing what features you'll get after leveling up can be considered metagaming in my book. As long as you're not using meta knowledge to ruin another player's enjoyment of the game, sure I have no problem with it.
I think min/maxing...
Is fine, just don't overdo it. Min max so that you're good at one thing is fine. Min max so that you're good at everything is not.
