About Henry Kacik

I am a narrative focused GM who loves helping players tell epic stories. I started playing roleplaying games in elementary school and began running them not long after, which means I have about fifteen years of GM experience under my belt. In that time I have built a handful of sprawling homebrew worlds full of politics, mystery, mythology, weird creatures, and big character moments. My games mix drama, humor, and cinematic action, and I always try to make every story feel personal to the characters at the table. My style is collaborative and player centered. I work with players to figure out what excites them and then weave their character goals into the world so the story feels like it truly belongs to them. I draw inspiration from Dimension 20 and Worlds Beyond Number, along with the books and myths that have lived rent free in my head for years, which helps me craft adventures with real emotional stakes and meaningful choices. Whether you are brand new or a seasoned adventurer, my table is welcoming, safe, and built on shared imagination. If you want immersive worlds and character driven storytelling, I would love to run a game for you.

I became a GM because

I became a GM because I’ve been chasing this feeling since I was a kid. I started LARP camp in fourth grade, turned recess into ongoing adventures, and never really stopped. Today, I love collaborating with players to tell big, badass stories where characters grow beyond their pasts.

My favorite books are

1. The Bright Sword, Lev Grossman 2. Red Rising (especially Light Bringer), Pierce Brown 3. The Traitor Baru Cormorant, Seth Dickinson 4. Septimus Heap, Angie Sage 5. The Magician’s Land, Lev Grossman 6. The Wayfarers series, Becky Chambers

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Cinematic, Player-First, and Thoughtful

How Henry Kacik runs games

My GM style is a balance of tactical, meaningful combat and fun, character driven roleplay. I really enjoy building encounters where players have to think creatively, use the environment around them, and make decisions that actually matter to the story. A fight with nothing to interact with feels empty to me, so I design combat to be dynamic, reactive, and just as engaging as any roleplay scene. I love roleplay just as much. I like being silly and playful when the moment calls for it, but I also enjoy leaning into dramatic or emotional character beats. The quiet moments where characters get to be vulnerable or surprising or heroic are some of my favorites, and shifting between humor and depth keeps the story feeling rich and alive. I am a big believer in the rule of cool. If you want to swing from chandeliers, ride a collapsing statue, vault off a friend’s shield, or improvise some wild magical nonsense, I want to help you make it look awesome, as long as the dice are on your side. Above all, I want players to feel welcome, supported, and excited to try bold ideas. If you enjoy interactive encounters, collaborative storytelling, and getting lost in made up worlds, you will fit right in at my games.

I prep by

Focusing on story arcs, themes, and the forces/factions shaping the world, while leaving space for player choices to meaningfully change the direction of play. I come prepared, but never locked into a script.

My games focus on...

Cinematic storytelling, meaningful character arcs, and player-driven choices, supported by regular, impactful combat. I aim for a balance where story and tactics work together to create tension, momentum, and memorable moments.

Rules are...

A framework to support the story and keep play fair, not a barrier to great moments. I’m happy to bend or interpret rules when it serves the narrative, while aiming to be clear and consistent so everyone feels comfortable and supported.

Henry Kacik's ideal table

My ideal table is collaborative, engaged, and excited to take the story seriously while still having fun together. My games work best for players who enjoy character-driven storytelling, meaningful choices, and leaning into moments of tension, growth, and consequence. You don’t need to be an expert on the rules: curiosity, communication, and a willingness to invest in your character matter far more. I value players who support each other at the table, share the spotlight, and approach the game with generosity and trust. The general vibe at my table is cinematic and intentional: intense story moments, regular and impactful combat, and space for characters to change over time. We take the story seriously, but not ourselves the goal is to build something memorable together.

I love it when a player

Engages seriously with the world, treating their character’s choices, relationships, and consequences as something that matters, and leaning into the story even when it asks hard questions.

My table is not the place for...

My table is not the place for spotlight-hogging or play styles that leave other players behind. I value shared storytelling, generosity at the table, and making sure everyone has space to shine.
