About Josh

Hello, I'm Josh a gm who found that he loved running stories with people, being surprised at both rolls of the dice and player choices. I try to run a fun and safe table where you can sink into a character and roleplay in a world that engages. I have run fully homebrew games as well as pre written modules, and found that I like to take peoples characters and wind them into the narrative. I want to give this a professional shot and develop into the best GM I can. Please get in touch if you are looking for a game. I have always got either games running or being planned. I aim to run about 6-8 games at a time, if you see more ads than that, I am trying out what people are interested in. If you like the look of a game I have planned but the time doesn't work for you, feel free to reach out and maybe we can work out a time that works.

I became a GM because

I wanted to play and volunteered to GM for my friends. I kept playing because I found I loved the opportunity to be creative. Taking my players backstories and weaving them into a world. While reacting to my players ideas leading to a new and unpredictable experience.

How Josh runs games

My first goal is enjoyment, this is a game if we aren't enjoying why are we doing it. I try to keep a fun atmosphere, where jokes are welcome and people are comfortable with each other and looking forward to the next game. I run adventures depending on what the group is enjoying which does involve keeping good lines open to see what people are enjoying most. I try to have engaging characters that people like to interact with or love to hate. I can run several different types of combat from fun experiences for new players. To making optimizers sweat. And everything in between. What I try to not do is have fights be pointless or boring. And if you prefer to have a clever way to avoid the fight entirely, if you can pull it off well done. DND is an outlet for storytelling and creativity, so expect me to be making things to fit my players.

I deal with rules issues by...

By taking a moment to think about what makes sense in world, and making a ruling for the moment that allows play to continue in as close to the implied rule without getting in the way of fun. After the game I will consider if I need to edit the ruling based on things like balance, abusability etc.

My games focus on...

Having fun together. This can be in a tense roleplay scene. A crazy combat encounter. Banter with other PCs and NPCs. Above table meme sharing and joking. If you are looking forward to the next game, that is the game I want to create.

Josh's ideal table

The vibe I like is when people are comfortable being themselves and being their characters. I have a relaxed vibe that seeks to encourage joking and fun. When the game requires me to ratchet up the tension, I like to put the work in giving my players reason to trust me as a GM.

I love it when a player

Wants to try something 'stupid'. As long as you aren't being an ass hat there is no wrong way to play a ttrpg. Try things out! Take swings and see what happens!
