About Jacob
Hey you! My name is Jacob, and I love tabletop games! I first started playing about 10 years ago with the tail end of D&D 4e, and have been consistently DMing Dungeons & Dragons (5e) since 2020. During that time, I've also branched out and been excited to try other game systems such as Monster of the Week, Daggerheart, Cosmere RPG (all of which I am very much still learning!) I am an avid fan of both Critical Role & Dimension 20, and love both of those game styles for their different reasons. Beyond the table, I have over a decade of experience in performance, degrees in theatre & education, and work professionally as a program facilitator. All of those are experiences I heavily draw on as a GM, playing into my love for accents & character voices, improvisation, and creative worldbuilding that ties directly to the characters at the table and the stories we wish to tell as players. I have a deep love and appreciation for the personal connection that TTRPGs bring us, and I am always striving to find ways to learn and grow, and will always try to push to be a better player, GM, and overall human being. So if you like a campaign where there's lots of lore, laughter, and love at the table, I'd love to see you there!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Creative, Engaging, Collaborative!
When I'm not running games I'm...
Traveling the country as a youth worker and when I'm home spending time with my spouse, our two cats, and either gaming on my PC or reading a good book!
How Jacob runs games
I love a mix of meaningful roleplay (laced with a healthy amount of humor) and challenging encounters. I believe that no matter the system or the setting, everyone having fun is the number one priority. I do also think that when players (and GMs) are appropriately challenged in high stakes scenarios, it lays the groundwork for those special moments that epic, cinematic, and feel satisfying for everyone at the table. I often find that homebrewed items, creatures, or mechanics, can help us get there, and help us tell our own unique story in a way that is engaging and meaningful, and keeps everyone on their toes.

I once ran a session...
Where there was a battle of the bards and the players had to face off against the likes of Balor Swift, Sabrina Artificer, Billy Troll and more!
Rules are...
A great guideline for fair, challenging, and consistent play! But also, they are meant to be broken, on occasion!
When it comes to voices
I love them! I have a degree in theater, so expect character voices from me, though I don't expect them from you!
Jacob's ideal table
My table is one that is caring, creative, and collaborative! I love to facilitate experiences where everyone at the table feels important & involved, and that your character feels cool and compelling in their own unique way! If there is something unique that you want to do, I will help you figure it out along the way, so long as it isn't at the expense of the rest of the group.

I am for a vibe that's...
A mix of humor and heart! If we can laugh and cry together, that is the best game I can ask for.
I love it when a player
Makes a strong choice! Go big or go home! Whether it works out or not is for the dice to decide, and it will be an amazing story either way!
My table is not the place for...
Lone Wolf Characters/Antagonizing other party members. I see the appeal, especially if done well or tastefully, but this is a collaborative game and story we are telling together! Make sure you have a couple of clear motives as to why you are ready/willing to work together, not against one another!
