About Grey
Hello all! I am Grey, a GM who has been playing in (but mostly running) games since 2017. While I’m most experienced with Dungeons and Dragons 5e, I’ve run several other systems and really enjoy exploring new rulesets and worlds. I’m a growing writer and strong advocate of collaborative storytelling, always emphasizing being a safe space and trying to create a tailored experience that best fits the particular table.

I became a GM because
As an outlet for creativity, collaboration, and escapism tabletop roleplay, especially from behind the GM screen, is unmatched. Creating together with others at the table is an experience I've grown to rely on as a time to think deeply, turn loose my creativity, and enjoythe presence of others.
My favorite books are
The Earthsea Cycle by Ursula K Le Guin, The Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss, Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake, The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, Children of Time by Adrian Tchaikovsky, Honeycomb by Joanne M Harris, and There is No Antimemetics Division by qntm.
How Grey runs games
I am a GM that highly prizes character depth and thematic focus. I want players at my table to feel present in the world before them and understand that their choices will have consequences. Additionally, adaptation and flexibility are skill sets I’m working hard at. It pays to be prepared, but not to the detriment of the players’ agency or the organic story moments being told. Largely I will decide on what fits the players and their characters the best as far as focuses on mechanics and balancing goes, so that no two tables are going to have exactly the same experience from my approaches to combat, exploration, narration, and roleplay. I like to make the world and the NPCs that inhabit it distinct and fun to interact with. I am always open to feedback and finding what will make the table, and individuals, thrive and enjoy the game more.

Rules are...
are there to prop up the collaborative experience, not hinder or slow it down. I prefer to ignore the rules if the story or the table are better without it. That said, they are an important waystone and measuring stick to guide play and keep everyone on the same page.
Grey's ideal table
Communicationis key at my table. I attempt to be approachable and flexible in almost everything that concerns the game. Players that like deep worlds, oddball npcs, open discussion, philosophical themes, and a welcoming atmosphere will enjoy being at my table. All are welcome so long as they respect others, value the game, and treat each other well.

I love it when a player
has a unique concept for both who their character is and what kind of decisions that person has had to make and continually will make to form who they are. If you prioritize making your character more than a caricature or simplistic trope, then I can work to put them in more challenging situations.
