About me
Hello! I am not one to toot my own horn so here is just a little about me, My name is Nic and I've been DMing for around 7-8 years now and playing in various TTRPGs for a little longer than that. I've run multiple campaigns for various groups of friends and strangers some of whom even became friends I still play with. Like many, I got started running paid games during the pandemic and do my best to bring value to my games by taking what I earn and reinvesting into my games by subscribing to several Patreons and services to enhance your game experience. Is this necessary to have an enjoyable time? Of course not, but I firmly believe if you are paying for something you deserve more than just the standard/default experience. I love the RP in TTRPG and always encourage my players to do so. At the same time, I like the idea that enemies know what they are doing so try and play them according to their stat blocks which tends to make combat more challenging and interesting.
GM Style
- RULES ARE IMPORTANT, BUT I’LL BEND/IGNORE THEM FOR A BETTER GAME: Unless given sufficient reason, I follow rules as written. I sometimes run house rules, which are discussed in session 0 or upon request before joining. I prefer to re-flavor the abilities or mechanics to fit concepts to homebrew. However, some mechanics don’t work well, others need tweaking, and sometimes they can take a backseat for a cool moment. - PLAYING INTO YOUR CHARACTER’S STORY: Narrative matters to me. I work to help give your characters fulfilling narratives based on their backstories. However, I can’t do that if the character doesn’t fit into the campaign’s premise and setting. This includes clear communication, except when hiding spoilers. In longer-running campaigns, you’ll see callbacks to previous events that occurred during and before the adventure. - CUSTOMIZED CONTENT & COMBAT: Outside of writing original adventures, I often alter published content to better fit a group and/or improve other aspects, like pacing, more interesting creatures, and filling plot holes. I play enemies based on their statblock and assume they, to some extent, know their own strengths/weaknesses. This means combat can be challenging but still fair. - MULTIPLE SOLUTIONS AND PATHS: I enjoy seeing players come up with creative and novel solutions to situations. Will they always work? No, but as long as it doesn't break the fundamental rules of the game you can give your best shot. Cool and fun moments can be what makes the game so fun. - PLAYER RESPONSABILITY: TTRPGs are collaborative games, and nobody is the "main character". The spotlight should be shared. It is more fun for everyone to use creative problem-solving and teamwork than to have one character who can do everything and/or is OP in combat while everyone else is balanced I do not tolerate bullying, real-life politics or religion, excessive swearing, or derogatory language at my table. If you wish to have divisive conversations, do so outside game time.
