About Andrew
Greetings adventurers! I'm Andrew. I've been a GM since summer 2023 and I love it more and more every time I play; seeing the joy on players' faces makes my day. I have a deep knowledge of D&D and I've recently been branching out into other systems: Nimble, Invincible, Legend in the Mist and more. I especially love introducing people to tabletop gaming, so if you're new to the hobby or new to one of the systems I run, I'm the GM for you. Whether I'm writing a campaign from scratch or editing a pre-written adventure to make it my own, I tailor every game to you and your characters so you can get invested in the stories we tell together. When you play with me, you're the heroes of the story, never bystanders. I was first convinced to try playing D&D when I watched Fantasy High on Dropout. My friends and I wanted to try playing but the one experienced Dungeon Master in our group had too much on his plate to run another game, so I volunteered and I've been a DM ever since. I love Dropout and Brennan Lee Mulligan was my first example of a great DM, but my favorite campaign to watch is actually Adventures in Azerim by Viva La Dirt League. Since I started playing, I've gotten more and more interested in TTRPGs, and I've been following a few more campaigns as well as a lot of TTRPG content creators who talk about game design, rules, homebrew, etc. It's only become more of a passion for me as time goes on.

I got started GMing...
When my book club got curious about it. One of us is an experienced Dungeon Master, but he had too much on his plate to run a campaign. I had a watched a couple of D&D actual plays and I felt like I had a decent handle on it, so I volunteered and wrote an adventure. I've been a DM ever since.
My favorite shows/movies are
Avatar: The Last Airbender The Dark Knight Trilogy The Matrix Trilogy The Mask of Zorro Treasure Planet Shrek Spider-Man (Especially the Toby Maguire trilogy and Spiderverse movies) Community Brooklyn 99 The Good Place 30 Rock Stargate Supernatural (at least the first 5 seasons)
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Educational - I love teaching new players and I dare say I'm pretty good at it. Encouraging - I always want players to feel free to be creative and run wild. Creative - My players always seem to love what I come up with.
How Andrew runs games
I am first and foremost a "rule of cool" GM. I believe that rulings are more important than rules and that rules as written are only useful until they stop adding to our fun. Most of my games are aimed at newer players and I love to use my training in andragogy (teaching adults) to introduce new people to TTRPGs in an accessible way, helping people fall in love with this hobby that I love so much. Playing with me, you can expect a healthy mix of roleplay, puzzles and combat. I try in every session to encourage players to embody their characters, flex their creativity, and let their imaginations run wild.

I deal with rules issues by...
By listening to what my player wants to happen and making a ruling. When we're at the table, we've all set aside hours of our time to have fun. I'm not going to waste any of that time looking up the specific wording of a rule and deliberating on it. If you want to do something cool, just tell me.
I once ran a session...
Where the players fought a naval battle against a kaiju in the morning, and in the evening a werewolf got launched into the air like a rocket while trying to leave a dinner party. I can't explain either within the character limit here, but feel free to ask me about it if we play together.
Rules are...
Only useful until they start feeling constricting. I live by the rule of cool. The rules as written do not confine me or my players, so the moment a rule stops adding to our fun, I'm happy to leave it behind.

I love it when a player
When a player comes up with a plan or an idea that I could never have seen coming. I plan out the encounters in each session, but I leave it up to the players to freely approach those encounters in any way they want, and my favorite moments are when my players surprise me.
My table is not the place for...
Racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, or any other kind of toxicity.
