About Nitro (Matt)

I'm Matt, but you can also call me Nitro. (He/Him; early 30s) I'm a variety content creator (Galvanitro) that does streaming, animation, and writing. Went to college for Game Design and Film Studies, with a secondary focus in Mythology - all of my life I've been passionate about storytelling and gameplay (especially with stats/mechanics) so tabletop RPGs are the perfect union of both my passions and my skills. I've been in the tabletop space for nearly fifteen years as both Player and GM, but mostly GMing. Throughout my years I've played several systems, but none of have appealed to me as much as the Star Wars RPG system made by Fantasy Flight Games / EDGE Studio. Star Wars is a favorite franchise of mine and so it was a natural fit for me along with their narrative style. I have run this system for over 10 years and nearly 2000 hours as a GM. Often throughout the last decade, I was a GM for other GMs because of both my ability to run engaging and interesting games but also due to my personal preference to be behind the GM screen - Forever GM is a badge of pride for me, not a disappointing reality. I also want to take a moment to say that my games are LGBTQ+ inclusive in both players and game content - there will be LGBT content in the worlds and NPCs whether the players bring their own or not. Lastly - I myself just joined a Daggerheart campaign as a player - if all goes well, I might have another system to run in the coming year that I'll be excited to add!

People are always surprised when I tell them

How much was planned - and how much wasn't. Although I'm known for putting a lot of effort into planning out storylines and adventures, I also am fast to adapt to my players. Able to improvise from content because of the immense prep and make it seem as deep as if planned

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Teasing, Evil, Storyteller

When I'm not running games I'm...

Working on my other creatives projects (animation, books, etc.), playing the Star Wars: Unlimited TCG (playing competitively at big events!), and enjoying some gaming with the likes of Marvel: Rivals and RPGs like Baldur's Gate 3 And yes, occasionally touching grass

How Nitro (Matt) runs games

Currently, I am only running games for the FFG/EDGE Star Wars RPG game system. Should I add additional systems (hoping for Daggerheart to be one), I'll update this appropriately. As a Game Master, I bring to the table over a decade of experience running the FFG Star Wars system. My games are primarily voice-based played theater of the mind on Discord and web browser. While I mostly am a Rules as Written kind of GM, I can and will extend the rules to allow for instances of cool moments as long as we can find a way to represent it fairly in the mechanics. With deep characters and worldbuilding, you can expect a lot of roleplay to dive into. Action, adventure, intrigue, drama, and romance can all be found here and all campaigns that I run will always be LGBT-friendly (not just for players/PCs, but with representation in the NPC cast). It's important to me that everyone is welcome at my tables. My campaigns are very evocative of story-oriented RPG video games, but ones you are living through and actively adapting to you. Deep relationships with NPCs, even some joining the party as companions that the players can direct and epic setpiece moments that have been designed around offering the potential for exciting moments or story revelations. My campaigns have open elements for exploration and choice but will also be crafted adventures with improvisation and adaptation to player choices to create something truly unique. I don't run pre-gens, every story is unique and fit to the players and their characters. I am a Beginner Friendly GM, as long as you are open to learning on your feet. My first sessions of any campaign tend to be partially tutorial in nature, thanks to the RPG video gaming inspirations, so my hope is that most players will feel comfortable long before too much is at stake. I am happy to answer questions as long as they don't interrupt the gameplay too long (and will be happy to continue the discussion after if it would). You are the main characters of the story, not a lesser part of the world - if you want to be a Luke Skywalker, you can. If you want to be more of a Chewbacca, helping out your team but not leading the story, that's welcome too. I run my games at higher XP levels specifically to help this - you will have the skills and talents to immediately have heroic potential and build to be both more well-rounded and stronger at your best traits, rather than starting from scratch.

I prep by

Creating and maintaining a deep database of NPCs that exist within your campaign's world, and developing ongoing storylines for both you and them to follow. Completely adaptable, this matrix of story beats lets me go with the flow while keeping meaning to the adventures and connecting the plot.

My games focus on...

Everything. I know that sounds like a lot, but what I mean is that they are universal experiences within their world. Currently, I run Star Wars exclusively, so what that means is - action, adventure, mystery, light horror, romance, spirituality, even politics - it's all here.

When it comes to voices

While I'm not a voice actor, you are still working with someone with over ten years of experience - I've learned many different tones and personalities to convey via voice, as well as the sharp reaction times needed for conversation. And yes, I have a variety of fun alien voice variants to enjoy

Nitro (Matt)'s ideal table

My tables are for people who are looking for adventures where they get to fully explore their characters alongside the other players against a rich variety of NPCs. Be prepared for times with party-splitting where we bounce between scenes to highlight sub-parties moments while those not there watch, or big group action scenes where you need to be ready at any moment to jump in with your move or discuss quick strategy/plans. Be you a Luke/Han/Leia (actively engaging with the main plot and/or bringing an epic backstory) or a Chewie/C3P0/R2 (interested in supporting other players adventures while having fun with a character your enjoy) or a bit of both, I welcome it all and will adapt to what you prefer. I will be using the following Safety Tools: Breaks (5-15 mins about midway through our time for everyone to breathe, get a snack or use the bathroom) X Card (live) Lines & Veils (Established Session 0 with option to update anytime) Star & Wish (in a specific text channel for doing this during the week following each session) Content Warnings (Campaign Listing + Session 0)

I am for a vibe that's...

Serious about having fun - we have a text channel for the jokes that come up mid-scene but the attention stays on the action and moments that make it memorable, give everyone their time to shine and get rewarded with great depth.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Critical Role but Star Wars. The great advantages of the FFG/EDGE Star Wars RPG system, beyond being accessible and easy to learn, is that it allows rapid and dynamic storytelling. All the story without some of the complex mechanics and hours of combat for one fight.

I think min/maxing...

Is unnecessary. I am all for making characters that do what you want to do well, but both my games and the systems I run encourage characters, not statsticks. You can min-max, most of my rules won't stop you, but you probably won't have as much fun as those who explore characters to their fullest!
