About Gabe

My name is Gabe, and I am a lifelong tabletop enthusiast and a university student studying both Creative Writing and Computer Science. I currently serve in an executive leadership role for my university’s Tabletop Gaming Organization, where I organize and manage weekly events. I have learned a lot from this about guiding large groups, managing table dynamics, and ensuring everyone has a welcoming, entertaining experience. I have been a player in TTRPG games for many years now, and as of the past couple of years, I have transitioned into the GM seat with a focus on immersive worldbuilding and narrative depth. I am a writer who loves fantasy/sci-fi, and nearly everything about TTRPGs appeals to me. When the time is right, I love creating custom content, unique adversaries, and mechanics that fit my players' needs without breaking the system's core balance. The storytelling aspect is my favorite though, and I am excited to embark on these stories with you!

I became a GM because

I have always loved telling stories, and doing it with other people involved simply makes the experience 10x better. Being able to have the story change and evolve, and be a fixture in minds other than my own, is extremely rewarding.

My favorite books are

Most anything by Brandon Sanderson. I am a huge Cosmere fan. I also love Project Hail Mary and the Martian by Andy Weir, haven't read Artemis yet though. I am a big Sci-fi/Fantasy fan.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing other board games! I run a weekly Blood on the Clocktower meetup (when in person), and have begun a collection of other board games that I enjoy roping my friends into playing.

How Gabe runs games

My approach to GMing is heavily rooted in collaborative storytelling and character-driven narrative. I believe the most memorable campaigns are those where player characters are at the true center of the world's development. I design my sessions to provide meaningful roleplay opportunities, ensuring your character's backstory, motivations, and personal arcs get the spotlight they deserve. While I emphasize narrative, I am equally passionate about delivering thrilling, high-stakes combat, especially when running combat-oriented systems. I aim for a balance that keeps both a dynamic pace, and an engaged table. My ultimate goal as your GM is to make sure your character gets to shine at what they do best. I tailor encounters, puzzles, and social situations specifically to the strengths and goals of the party. Expect a table where your decisions matter, the world reacts to your actions, and the table celebrates your character's unique abilities.

I deal with rules issues by...

Ruling on the spot! Sometimes, whether a rule can't be found quickly, it simply doesn't exist, or people disagree on it, making a new ruling can be the best solution! In my opinion, consistency is key. If I make a ruling, I will do my best to stick to it from that point forth.

When it comes to voices

Tone and inflection is a better indicator of NPCs than accents are. I will make a hearty attempt, but often it reverts to, likely, a British accent. I've been told my accents all end up as John Lennon. As much as it pains me to say: I am not a voice actor. I do my best, though.

Gabe's ideal table

I like when my players get invested with their characters. The game revolves around them; their choices, their hardships, their successes. If you care about them, and the story that we tell with them, the game will be made all that much better for everyone involved. Similarly, I also love when players get into character. Roleplay with them, even if it's a combat scenario! What decisions does your character make under pressure? Do they work alone, or are they willing to work with the party? Over time, does that change? In a regular roleplay scenario it is easiest to get into character. I love when players make the effort to get into character, even when it's hardest. I have no tolerance for bigotry or discrimination of any kind. If you have something mean to say to someone, don't. If you do, we will have a conversation, which may result in my asking you to leave the table. Use your best judgement. Everyone in the game just wants to have fun!

I am for a vibe that's...

Casual but professional. We're playing to have fun, but we want to make sure we actually play. I want to get to know my players, and for them to know each other, and be comfortable enough to let loose. However, the priority is the game, and the time spent playing it.

I love it when a player

Calls another player by their character's name! It's a lovely way to get into character, and also to help define when you are talking to another player in character, vs using the player's actual name and discussing from a more withdrawn perspective.
