About Eli The Dungeon Master
"Pelor forbid something terrible happened to me, Eli would be my first choice to run Critical Role!" - Mark Mercer "This guy knows more bird facts than me!" - Brennan Lee Mulligan "I hate this stupid Dungeon Master and his intrepid players always killing me!" - Vecna Hello there! My name is Eli, and my profile banner is of my children, Muchi and Nacho. Since learning to GM, I have hosted games nearly every single week (with the occasional break for the Holiday BBEG). While I primarily play D&D 5E 2024, I know the system inside and out. Whether you are playing in one of my homebrew worlds, or enjoying module, my highest priority is to tell a compelling story collectively and have fun doing it. Everyone is welcome at my table as long as you are kind and an ally. Thank you for clicking on my profile and I hope to be rolling some 20s with you soon!

I became a GM because
I had only played in a few TTRPG games in college, and I wasn't very interested at the time. A few years later, a co-worker asked me to join a game with him, and I was hooked. TTRPGs provide a beautiful escape from reality by mirroring our reality through a fantasy lens. It expands worldviews!
My favorite books are
Way too many to put only here. Dune, House of Leaves, Hyperion, Scythe, Star Wars: Darth Plagueis, D&D: The Fallbacks, Ravenloft: Heir of Strahd, and The One! If it has philosophical undertones, a moral dilemma, or solid fantasy, I will likely enjoy it!
When I'm not running games I'm...
Playing video games with my partner or cooking a fantastic meal. I'm OBSESSED with the Persona games right now, and I stream Helldivers 2 and Marvel Rivals regularly on Twitch and TikTok. As for food, I can't live without sushi!
How Eli The Dungeon Master runs games
My GM style is player centric with a focus on story. My hope is that mechanics and stats fade into the background as something compelling unfolds before you. There is plenty of space for trying new voices, exploring thought-provoking themes, and secrets to be revealed! Roleplay is central to all of my games especially with the complex characters my players bring to the table. One of my pet peeves is calling for needless ability checks. Simply narrate your actions, and, if I deem it worthy of a roll, I'll call for one. Many tasks in-game you can simply do... no roll needed! As for character creation, feel free to min-max as much as you would like for your character. There is no reason to not use every tool as your disposal. We can have both strong heroes and strong story! Roleplay: 🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️ Exploration: 🔍🔍 Combat: ⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️ Puzzles: 🧩🧩

I deal with rules issues by...
I use the 60 second rule. If we can't reach a rule consensus within a minute, I'll make a call on the spot. I commit to also looking up a better solution in the rulebooks after session and informing everyone before we play again.
My games focus on...
Philosophical ideology, and dark fantasy. I gravitate towards game with moral gray and allow my players to make their own determination. Many modules have an obvious morally correct solutions, and this just not how the world works. My players are vehicles for change and bringing about hope!
Rules are...
Helpful, but meant to bend when they get in the way of the game!
Eli The Dungeon Master's ideal table
You will get the most out of my games if you have your webcams on, practice yes/and style roleplay, and push the big red button! You can expect lots of discussion about incorporating your character thoroughly into the world, safety tools during the game, and active responses to questions you may have. If you join a game mid way through the campaign, there may be extra discussion on how to bring you character into the game naturally. No matter when you join, I will offer a free session zero before the first game you play (usually 10-15 minutes before we play) going over rules and what to expect. There is minimal homebrew or rules changed from 5E at my tables, but the few aspects are outlined in my Discord and on my profile when you book. All I ask of you is to stay opened minded and kind to others! Allow for everyone to participate and roleplay :)

I think min/maxing...
Is awesome! There is nothing wrong with min-maxing as long as you are okay with others who do not. As long as your build does not derail the session, I will balance my encounters accordingly to however powerful your character is.
My perfect party mix is
Made of unique characters! I love when everyone to plays someone distinct and different from the rest of the players at the table. This does not mean there isn't character class overlap, but everyone settles into a distinct role. Example: two Bards is awesome when ones loves reading and one sings!
My table is not the place for...
Bigotry, sexism, racism, fascism, and homophobia! While villains who need to be slain act with these qualities, my players themselves will be asked to leave if they show them. My heroes and players must support each other!
