About Enguerrand

English: I discovered D&D in 2017, back when I was still trying to invent my own tabletop role-playing game with friends, and hosting games like that. Ever since, I've played countless games, and DMed most of them. I also discovered how fun it is to create your world in 2019, and I have continued to improve my homebrew setting ever since. I love to create compelling stories and adventures for my players, to be surprised by their actions, and to see the effect and consequences of their choices.

I became a GM because

I've kept a child-mind; I keep making up stories, I keep hearing an epic song, and picturing riders storming over the hills to face their opponents. As a GM, I have the opportunity to share this with others, to make them experience what goes through my head, and together, we can create new stories.

My favorite books are

The Witcher: I love its gritty and dark setting. It has been a huge inspiration for me and its definitely among my favorite setting.

When I'm not running games I'm...

usually finding ways to bring D&D to life. May it be writing for my homebrew setting, learning how to craft potions in real life, or even learning how to work with leather to create props and armor!

How Enguerrand runs games

English: I try my best to be flexible, to adapt to my players. I do love to see my players roleplaying, acting as their characters, and interacting with the world and with one another. It is such a great joy when I see the players spontaneous roleplay and actions. As for the combat, I tend to big monsters, it feels epic. I like it when my player feels like it was dangerous, almost complaining they almost got killed, yet survived, letting them feel they're always becoming stronger.

I deal with rules issues by...

making stuff on the spot with my players. I think if we have an issue on the interpretation of a rule, it's more important to keep the flow of the game. I'll look up the actual solution or rule interpretation later and disclose it with my players, but right now it's best to keep the game going.

I prep by

Having general ideas of characters or events you might encounter to progress in the stories. But nothing too specific; I want to stay flexible and to adapt to player choices. In my opinion, it is extremely important that player choices and freedom are respected and to be flexible to allow that.

My games focus on...

Fun. I used to think that I wanted a dark setting just like some universe I love (Witcher, for example). Yet I've realized being silly with friends at the table is just as nice if everybody enjoys that, and that it can be balanced with dramatic or more serious and dark moments too.

Enguerrand's ideal table

English: I want people at my table to feel welcome, to feel safe enough to roleplay, to be silly, to be emotional, to be all of that as the stories evolve. Tho I have to admit it tend to be mostly wacky and silly. I want the players at my table to share an experience together, to be able to think back about those moments with a smile, or about how intense it was.

I am for a vibe that's...

fun and safe. As much as I talk about emotional moments, I know from experience that most of the time, we've all been silly, goofy, and laughing around, and that's exactly the vibe that I want!

I love it when a player

dare to roleplay an emotional scene. This set the tone for everybody; there is this tension as everyone listens, wondering what will happen exactly, and even for me as a DM, those moments are surprising and full of emotions.

My perfect party mix is

characters that are different enough to always bring new ideas and roleplay, but close enough to stick with each other and form a mostly united group. Don't worry too much about mechanical balance/party distribution; I'll make it work.
