About Doug Comstock

I've been playing D&D for about 20 years, and have been a GM for most of that time. While active duty in the Navy, taught new players and wrote campaigns on deployments for new groups regularly. My experience with TTRPGs has mostly revolved around new players, and at this point I genuinely feel that I specialize in introducing new people to this lovely game! Primarily I write my own adventures based on the themes, players are interested in, and have a significant amount of experience with distant playing utilizing VTTs and voice/video calling. Players can expect vast worlds, detailed storytelling, significant opportunities for role-playing, respect for player agency, professionally licensed soundscapes and music, and unique original adventures! I have created my own campaign setting, full of its own unique lore and history based on my indigenous Native American roots. I've ran 5 campaigns in the world and am currently writing a novel about it! Check out the world here: https://onentir.vvd.world/ I welcome and appreciate all at my tables and encourage self expression within a safe environment for all. LGBTQIA+ friendly!

I got started GMing...

My best friend and I wanted to make our own game within the Star Wars Extended Universe, but had no resources. So we downloaded a copy of the free rules of D&D 2e and I got about writing us a story that day. With one d6 and no idea what we were doing, we were off and running!

My favorite shows/movies are

The Lord of the Rings, Pride & Prejudice (2005), Braveheart, The Last of the Mohicans, Princess Mononoke, The Princess Bride, Hamnet, Gladiator, and so very many more!

When I'm not running games I'm...

I'm a loving Husband & Father, writer, runner, reader, and intelligence analyst for the US Navy.

How Doug Comstock runs games

I love to work with players to create vast worlds filled to the brim with enchanting stories, expansive lore, fun and occasional heart wrenching roleplay, tactical and dynamic combat scenarios, fully realized NPCs, and a fun and safe environment for all players. My favorite thing about TTRPGs is how collaborative the story telling is, and I am excited to help craft worlds upon worlds with players. I have run campaigns set in an Atlantean setting, Middle Earth, a cantina on Tatooine, murder mysteries, and much more. And anything I am unfamiliar with, I am excited to research and learn! I write detailed lore and notes, create maps, write and license music to help make scenes from more immersive, use a wide variety of character voices, and always respect player choices so long as they do not harm or discomfort anyone above table. Most of all, I love these games and love sharing them with players new and old!
