About Magali
My name is Magali (Ma-ga-lee), and I'm a big fan of immersive TTRPGs that allow for a lot of collaborative fun in a very sandbox style. I also run a lot of DnD games designed for non-native speakers looking to practice their English speaking skills in a relaxed environment, providing videos on how to play as well as vocab lists for sessions. I've always enjoyed storytelling and theatre, (not to mention being a huge fantasy nerd) and DnD has been a great way to continue both these passions. I would say most of my games have a fairly lighthearted, studio ghibli-esque approach to fantasy, though I do sometimes run games which focus on heavier topics.

I ran my first game...
Sitting on the floor in an attic room, with cardboard counters I got players to doodle on to represent their characters, a poorly printed map that was pushed flat by two books, and dice that had to be used collectively... fantastic snacks prepared though if I do say so myself.
My favorite books are
The Discworld series, never thought fantasy would be such a fantastic vehicle for satire.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Cooking, baking, reading, embroidering, walking in nature, trying desperately to beat a boss the storyline of a videogame is locked behind... (send help).
How Magali runs games
I'm a big fan of roleplay, I enjoy doing voices for a range of quirky characters. Additionally, don't ever worry about handing me a backstory that is too long I love all of it, and will make sure to incorporate interesting moments for players so if there's anything you want to try just let me know! I do also enjoy running multi-layered combat, where players will have a lot of different options in a fight. Always up for players to try fun combination moves, and I like to reward out of box thinking.

I prep by
Listening to background fantasy music while designing maps and writing out worldbuilding (I especially recommend Blue Turtle - all created by humans no AI!).
My games focus on...
Wonder, opportunity and a classic feeling of adventure. I like to give in-depth descriptions and create interesting NPCs, that encourage players to interact and explore. I'm keen on ensuring actions make an impact and change the direction of the story, so characters can see the difference they make.
Rules are...
Dice are wonderful for telling an unexpected story and keeping you on the edge of your seat. But I'm always inclined to reward creative thinking, impassioned in-character speeches and even a persuasive use of physics at times...
Magali's ideal table
As mentioned, I'm a big fan of roleplay, even if you're not keen on saying things in character or talking too much (which if you're playing in one of my games focused on improving English language skills is completely understandable!), I encourage players to think about how they describe their character and the actions they take. Generally, the vibe is whimsical and creative, feel free to shake things up and follow your sense of fun and adventure.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Cooperative worldbuilding. Whether it's through backstory, enquiries around sessions, or even offhand in-character conversations, I'm always keen to give players the opportunity to add to the world around them. So don't feel afraid of going outside of any previously discussed worldbuilding.
I think metagaming...
Takes the fun out of oblivious in-character moments. There's rarely anything funnier than making your characters work it out. That being said if all PCs have the same information in combat, then I'm happy for players to take time above table to work out a strategy.
I think min/maxing...
Needs to be used cooperatively or not at all. If everyone at the table goes for it, with other players helping out, that just gives me a licence to make combat more interesting. But if it's unbalanced, it just makes it hard to create engaging combat for everyone.
