About DM Doyles

Hello and well met! My DND journey began several decades (cough cough) ago when a high school friend asked if I wanted to try out this new game that was a combination of puzzle solving, world building, improv, and shiny dice. It was dice goblin love at first sight and while college/grad school/life made it harder to play on a regular basis, I was always happy when I had a chance to sit at a table and roll math rocks. Fast forward to post-COVID and a friend recommended the Dungeon Crawler Carl book series to me. I flew through them and remembered how much fun TTRPs can be. I got a DND starter kit and taught my kids how to play, found CRs Campaign 2 and fell back in love with DND. Realizing the availability of online games I started joining some one shots and eventually an ongoing campaign...Which grew to DMing for friend groups IRL and eventually leading campaigns at my local game store and through discord. I love the sense of collaborative storytelling and the excitement of bringing together a group of people from all over to create an adventure that will never be repeated again. I pride myself on making sure all feel welcome and comfortable at my table so their love of DND continues to grow. I look forward to adventuring with you!

My favorite books are

The St Mary's Chronicles, Dungeon Crawler Carl, The Wandering Inn, Kingkiller Chronicle (where is book 3????), Elizabeth Cage series, and sooooo many more I'd need a book to list them!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Creative, inclusive, encouraging.

How DM Doyles runs games

I view DND as a collaborative storytelling experience, where players and DM come together to create a unique experience using our combined creativity. I love a good story with character depth, emotional twists and turns and a culminating event that allows players to walk away both victorious but also wanting to continue discovering more. Role playing, puzzle solving, and combat all play a role in my adventures and I love an overarching mystery that slowly reveals itself while intertwining with characters backstories and growth arcs.

I once ran a session...

where I had to come up with names and backstories for a family of raccoons on the spot. They originally were just going to make some noise in a bush to distract the party, but the Druid convinced everyone to adopt them and take them on the adventure. Long live the Harrybottoms!

My games focus on...

Collaborative storytelling that helps every player feel that they belong. Rules exist to bring some order to the chaos that can be many imaginations coming together, but if there is an amazing moment between players or incredible character choice, I'm fully down for the Rule of Cool.

When it comes to voices

I love 'em but by no means expect players to be voice actors! As a DM I enjoy trying out different voices, especially when it helps players keep track of NPCs or help to set the tone or incorporate backstory.

DM Doyles's ideal table

I strive to create a table that fosters imagination and joy. I'm a lighthearted person, but in an adventure, I love to create and honor the moments where players face hard choices, emotions are heightened, and drama ensues. I'm a sucker for a good story! I like to weave in mysteries and puzzles in addition to combat and exploration and get so excited when I see a player sudden put something together and it all clicks. I want a table where everyone feels respected, has equal time to shine, and celebrates others when they succeed.
