About Alek

Starting off as a Dungeons and Dragons GM I played with friends and family for several years learning the game and trying other TTRPG systems as well. Eventually I ended up joining a group for professional GM's running one shots and short campaigns. Currently I work with a local therapy clinic running games for individuals with Autism, ADHD, Social Anxiety, and other Neurodivergences.

My favorite books are

The Stormlight Archive, Dune, and the Covenant of Steel Series. Really anything Sci-Fi or Fantasy will catch my attention.

My favorite shows/movies are

The Aliens Series, The Good Place, Arrested Development, Star Wars (the whole beautiful mess), Dune 1&2, Gravity Falls, Lord of the Rings, and Xena: Warrior Princess.

How Alek runs games

I believe TTRPGs should be fun, challenging, and approachable. As a GM I keep the preferences of the players in mind and adjust to their preferences and skill level. Not everyone wants to have a grueling 4 hour boss battle or wade through a masquerade ball roleplaying the entire evening. My specialty is improvisation and letting the players live out their character's fantasy as a powerful hero, clever detective, or even a cheesemonger from the mountains who's way in over their head.

Rules are...

Rules as written. However, I make liberal use of optional rules and emphasize player agency.

When it comes to voices

It can help players roleplay if each character has a unique voice. It can also be distracting to many players and, perhaps an unpopular opinion, not every NPC needs a unique voice.

I love it when a player

Ruins my carefully laid plans forcing me to think on my feet.

I think min/maxing...

Fun for the right setting and party. However no one like a party with one main character. I won't police how you have fun so long as it isn't at the expense of other players.
