About Devin

I'm a GM with 15 years of Gaming experience and some previous voice work, who specializes in running narrative games with high-drama moments and strong character development. I have a broad array of experience ranging from D&D 3.5 and 5e, through to MASKS: A New Generation and Urban Shadows, but I am at my best with games in the Powered By The Apocalypse family. My #1 goal is to create a safe space for play for all to ensure that all players walk away from the game with new stories and new experiences tailored around themes and ideas they want to explore with their characters.

I ran my first game...

...when I was 19, and it was my first TTRPG experience ever! My experience trying to learn the game AND how to teach brand new players to play at the same time convinced me of the importance of a good GM also being a good teacher! (Don't worry: I have teaching eperience too. :P)

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

- Friendly - Theatrical - Fan (of the player characters, of course!) I run games where your characters are the stars of the show, and I do my best to make sure that the show they're starring in is one worth everyone's time! But just as important, my tables are always warm and welcoming.

When I'm not running games I'm...

...splitting my time between writing, doing voiceover work, raising my young son (parents game too lol), and seeing what new rabbitholes my ADHD will lead me to next. Talk to me about history, martial arts, GM Theory, and more!

How Devin runs games

Engaging storytelling, expert improvisation, and strong voiceover skills are what forms the core of my GMing style. I'm equally at home running tactical or rules-light games, and my guiding principle (other than insisting on respect at the table for all) is to always remain a fan of the players' characters!

I deal with rules issues by...

...making a ruling on the spot, ensuring that ruling feels fair, and looking them up after the game is finished. I prioritize immersion, the flow of play, and respecting my players' time over looking up rules for clarification on the spot.

My games focus on...

...characters' inner drama and perspectives, as well as they way their actions impact the world around them. I tap into my experience as a voiceover artist in order to bring the world to life around my players and give them a vivid background against which to shine.

Rules are...

...important insofar as they make the game run smoothly and fairly, but secondary to the fun of the table as a whole. Also, rules should support the sort of game you're trying to play and the story you're trying to tell!

Devin's ideal table

My ideal table is one that's friendly, engaged with the game and each others' stories, and interested in telling stories together at the table that may not go quite the way we planned them. I try to keep the game balanced between drama and comedy, and I like players who remember that we're all here to have fun together. Everyone is welcome at my table so long as they respect others and enjoy roleplaying.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

...drama and storytelling that is intrinsically tied to the character you bring to the table...

I love it when a player

...isn't afraid to share the spotlight with others at the table! I love when players enjoy each others' characters and stories, and I'm forever trying to find ways to bounce player characters off of one another in fun ways. When a player helps me with that, the game only gets better!

My table is not the place for...

...bigotry or hate of any kind. Full stop. It's also not the place for players who don't enjoy the roleplaying (though it's okay if you're new to it! I'm always happy to ease people in). There's nothing wrong with being more into the game side of things, but you might not love my table.
