About Danny

Hello, I'm Danny! I have been playing DnD 5e for 10 years now and DMing for 3 (including long-term campaigns and one-shots). My love for fantasy started when my father showed me the Lord of the Rings movies in high school. But that passion really took off when a friend introduced me to DnD. There's a certain kind of magic that happens when people get around a table (physical or virtual) to tell a story together. Running one-shots is a lot of fun, but my true love is running modules that I tweak to incorporate character backstories. Pull up a chair and let's roll some dice!

How Danny runs games

My favorite part about DMing is incorporating a player's backstories into the campaign so that they truly feel like an integral part of the story, and that the things they do session-to-session have an effect on the world. I typically strive for the 70/30 balance of RP to combat, but of course that depends on what the player's want from the game. To me, the main rules of playing DnD are "be kind" and "have fun". If the table wants to spend the whole session talking with the colorful patrons of a tavern, let's do it! Or if they have the "shoot first, ask later" mindset with combat, I'm all for it. My goal is always to run a game where everyone is safe and has fun telling a collaborative fantasy story together.

My games focus on...

Player characters and their backstories/decisions, and how these can be woven into the main overarching plot.

Rules are...

Important for the fairness of the game, but "rule of cool" and creativity should be celebrated in special moments!

When it comes to voices

I'm not great at accents, but I do a variety of different vocal tones and speech patterns to help personalize an NPC.

Danny's ideal table

I run games that prioritize roleplay, with combat used for key moments. I emphasize comfortability as a DM: I want my players to feel safe enough to fully embody their characters and feel supported to make those risky game decisions when/if they come up. My players say that I run games that properly set the weighty tone of the story while still leaving room for silly or light hearted moments. Those two aren't mutually exclusive! :) The games that I run: •Focus on the story and how your character's decisions change this ever-evolving world and narrative. •Include your character's backstory as an integral part of the plot. •Feature memorable and lovable NPCs that have distinct personalities and motivations. •Cater to both seasoned veterans and those that are new to the game. •Are safe and inclusive. Any hate speech or discrimination will result in an immediate removal from the game.

I love it when a player

Surprises me by coming up with a solution that is creative and outside the box.

My perfect party mix is

Players who want to lose themselves in the story and the RP portion of the game, while still allowing for good humor.
