About Dadthulhu
Elder Paternal Power of Mythical Family. [Insert dramatic music queue here] As a GM I my philosophy is: It's my world, but it's *your* story. If the story is only happening TO the characters rather than being ABOUT the characters that creates a situation where the players are sitting through the GM's story. At that point why not just write a script? It can be tricky to manage in one-shots or short-run games, but when I am lucky enough to have folks want to play in my games I consider it my primary responsibility to make sure players feel invested and involved in the story that is unfolding - that it feels like their involvement matters because it is *their* story.

I became a GM because
because I couldn't help it. Thanks to a number of older cousins and aunt and uncles I was introduced to TTRPGs at a very young age - and I've never been able to put them down. I love gaming as a means of expression, imagination, interaction, and seeing people and challenges from new angles.
My favorite system of all Time is
Cyberpunk 2020. Not because it's perfect or without it's own flaws, but because I love the genre it embodies, and I have decades of fun and memories in the game.
When I'm not running games I'm...
helping grow Mythical Family in order to spread our message of representation and inclusivity in gaming and hobbies. Supporting local events, groups, and creators so everyone can enjoy the love of being nerdy. We stream games, playtest new systems, podcast, and sponsor local game conventions.
How Dadthulhu runs games
I tend to run role-play heavy games because I like to see and foster character interaction and progression. I can run both highly tactical action or more cinematic easy-flow action scenes, depending on the player group and what is more appropriate for the gaming system. My experience with gaming systems and genres is fairly broad and I do like running a wide assortment of games. All players are welcome at my table, just as long as they also welcome all other players. For long running games I do like to try to organize my players into groups of like-minded players when I can. So that everyone is enjoying the same interaction and flow of game.

I deal with rules issues by...
weighing the rule against the situation. The rules guide the decision, but the situation and story of the characters is what is ultimately most important.
My games focus on...
characters, interaction, and story. My motto is: It's my world, but it's YOUR story. I don't script movies or write screenplays.
Rules are...
are there to keep a game structured. How and when the rules are applied, or exceptions are made, is how a story is told, characters shine, and good times are had. Rules are sculptor's tools, they are not a hammer and anvil.
Dadthulhu's ideal table
All are welcome. As long as personal boundaries respected, and interactions are handled with dignity, that welcome will stay. I enjoy and encourage players that get immersed in their characters and the story. The games I bring to my table span the whole gambit from crunchy and tactical to rules light and whimsical - and everything in between. The feel and theme of the game will be clearly explained in each listing. Not all games are designed to run the same way - not all games should be the same. That's honestly the greatest joy of the gaming hobby!

I love it when a player
gets immersed in their character and the story, and can enjoy getting lost in the game for awhile.
I think metagaming...
takes away from the roleplaying experience but it's not something I disallow. It does not always work out best at my table though. Sometimes skill checks come to you rather than you choosing them. Sometimes even the barbarian needs to talk, or the medic needs to be sneaky.
My table is not the place for...
personal drama or therapy. We all come to a game table to play and have a good time. We are all in different places in our lives, and that will always be respected, but the game table is not the place to bring those things. Personal negativity, mistreatment, abuse of any kind will not be tolerated.
