About CockroachTeaParty
The name's Seth, but you can call me CTP! My goal is to provide the best gaming experience for you that I possibly can, and I have high standards! I've got over 20 years of TTRPG experience; at least 50% of that time was as a DM/GM running games for my friends. I consider myself an exceptional GM. I balance improv, acting, fun voices and accents, and thorough system knowledge with a sense of fairness, excitement, narrative development, and humor. I run pre-written material as well as creating my own adventures and campaigns. I also know what it's like from the players' POV. https://www.youtube.com/@CTP_GNG ^ check out my silly gaming YouTube channel if you want to hear some voices and SUCH; the Legend of Legaia playlist has a lot of voice acting nonsense I tell you what boy howdy.

I got started GMing...
As a young kid, I loved playing pretend with my friends, and I was often the 'ring leader' of these pretend games, spinning imaginary worlds and situations. As I got older, I found TTRPGs to be a natural evolution, codifying pretend play with concrete rules.
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
D&D 3.5/Pathfinder 1e: an endless reservoir of adventure Lancer: tactical mech combat par excellence Legend of the Five Rings 5e: an under appreciated gem of samurai romance
My favorite shows/movies are
Favorite TV show: Avatar the Last Airbender Favorite Movie: The Mask
How CockroachTeaParty runs games
I err on the side of simulationism and crunch over pure fluff, but I do love me some role playing. I believe TTRPGs are a wonderful platform for creative thinking, storytelling, flexing strategic muscles, and having some Goofs and Spoofs. For systems like D&D/Pathfinder, I enjoy exploration and combat focused games with a pulp vibe. For more narrative systems I prefer to focus on the players' characters and drive the story based on their desires and actions.
CockroachTeaParty's ideal table
My ideal table is genuine in their enthusiasm and excited to put their selected game system through its paces. My new players are open to learning and advice, and appreciated for their sense of wonder and novelty. My experienced players are chomping at the bit to try out a fully realized character concept and display their system mastery, while not being so set in their ways that they aren't willing to try out new things.

I love it when a player
makes a daring decision that ramps up the suspense or makes a lot of sense for their character despite safer alternatives; heroics takes guts! I love the triumph when they succeed against the odds, as well as the hilarity or tragedy when they fail.
I think metagaming...
is acceptable depending on the system, but I encourage my players to pick underdog options or oddball builds; I don't plan on punishing players for pursuing what genuinely interests them, even if it's not the most effective option (in combat or otherwise).
I think min/maxing...
Is acceptable as long as it's min/maxing, not just maxing... if you are going to be strong in a specific area, but weak in another, I hope you will have the maturity and grace to accept the outcome when you face your weakness.
