About Sean Mullins

I've been running tabletop roleplaying games, in professional and personal capacities, for nearly twelve years now. I cut my teeth with Dungeons & Dragons, but quickly expanded into a wider variety of games, though my core preference has always been for games of heroic fantasy. I love bringing the feel of pulp adventure stories to life, infused with ideas and motifs drawn from history, mythology, and classic literature, of which I have an abiding love. My games are all about presenting problems for players to solve with their own creativity and wits, whether those problems be social, tactical, or philosophical.

How Sean Mullins runs games

As a GM, I'm all about presenting players with challenges that have no predetermined solution. I love testing players' creativity, wits, and curiosity. I enjoy perilous, high-stakes combat where the players must be tactical and decisive to triumph. I also bring my passions for history, folklore, art, and great literature to the gaming table, presenting well-realized worlds and classic fantasy and adventure scenarios, all garnished with rich descriptive language.

Featured Prompts

My favorite trope is...

An enemy stronghold, seemingly impenetrable with something valuable inside. How will the hero or heroes contrive to get it against seemingly impossible odds?

My games focus on...

Perilous situations without obvious or predetermined solution. Players will need to rely on their own wits as well as what's on their character sheet. My games also take place in worlds that draw heavily upon folklore and history as well as fantasy media.

Rules are...

A springboard to better and greater things. A narrow interpretation of the rules should never be allowed to stand in the way of what the rule is meant to convey.

Sean Mullins's ideal table

I like to strike a balanced tone at the table. Every TTRPG session needs some room for jokes and distractions, but I do try to maintain at least something of a believable tone, and encourage players to speak in-character. I like to indulge in lush descriptive language whenever possible to set the tone, and enjoy it when players rise to the challenge of doing the same.

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

Sociable and humorous, but capable of staying focused and motivated, with self-directed pacing of the action.

I love it when a player

Devises a creative solution to a problem that I never would have thought of. That's really the heart of a good adventure, in my opinion.

My table is not the place for...

Players who want to be guided through a pre-determined story, or who want an emphasis on backstory and internal character drama. Though my games are not devoid of thematic richness or human drama, external obstacles and perils are always front-and-center.
