About Max

A game is like a car. You stir and put your foot to the pedal. I design the engine, oil everything up and change tires when needed. Love it when others have fun in my games and hate when they don't. That's why I will probably ask you a lot of questions to tailor the experience to you. I love games that focus on certain aspects, especially if those aspects are quirky. Makes experience more dense and choices more complicated. Started GMing because it's the only way to introduce friends to all the new weird stuff.

How Max runs games

My job is to set up an interesting situation and keep up the pace while players are in it. No railroading, the story should write itself at the table, I just make sure no scene overstays its welcome. Everything can be a game for me, and I feel like TTRPGs as a hobby embrace this philosophy. Not every game is interesting, though, and it's the GM's purpose to fix that. I love this fixing. I think it's all about complications; choices should be difficult. A fight cannot just be a team death-match; there will be a MacGuffin or a timer. Players can't win a social encounter just by rolling dice, it's just too simple. That's how I think about every important aspect: if the story is not complicated, it's not fun.

Rules are...

Only important as long as they make things more interesting.

Max's ideal table

Players should be up for combat, I try to give a fighting encounter at least every other session. PVP is not really my thing, but if players want it I won't be against. Getting into character is great, I think most conversations between players should be handled in character. Doesn't necessary mean doing voices, it's mostly about what you say and how you make decisions. Obviously everyone who doesn't sow hate is welcome no matter their gender or anything else really.

I think min/maxing...

Is ok if you can roleplay it. Sure, you are a warforged monk-druid-paladin multiclass, but why? As long as you are willing to explain how this character ended up in this peculiar situation, I am fine. We are playing a glorified game of play pretend, there is no such thing as "breaking" it.
